An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Engineering Technician to join friendly Medical Engineering Team at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust.
The successful candidate must have excellent IT skills including knowledge of medical device integration.
The successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to the transformation of services and contribute to the wider organisational strategies in preparation for our move into the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) which opens in 2024. The Medical Engineering Department will be moving into brand new state of the art facilities located on the 4th Floor of the new Hospital.
Main duties of the job
-To be managerially responsible to the Operational Manager, Medical Engineering.
-To be technically accountable to the Technical Supervisor.
- Responsible to the Consultant Medical Staff for all aspects of your workwhich affect the treatment and welfare of patients.
-To work with and assist manufacturers in determining the cause of equipment failure by sharing local clinical experience and knowledge, performing diagnostic tests required to isolate faults, running diagnostic software and examining equipment error logs.
-Ensuring all Planned Preventative Maintenance work is carried out promptly and efficiently.
-Assist the Management Team with the technical evaluation of new or loanmedical equipment.

Essential
- Substantial experience in maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical and electronic or mechanical and electromechanical Medical Equipment. This will have been gained in a role without direct supervision
- Experience in the use of computerised equipment management systems
- Experience in the use of electronic Test & Measurement equipment.
- Demonstrate practical experience in the use of machine tools in light engineering applications
- Experience in set up, configuration and use of IT to support troubleshooting and service of medical equipment.
Desirable
- Experience gained within a medical environment (Hospital or Equipment Manufacturer)
Qualifications
Essential
- BSc or BEng in electrical/electronic or mechanical engineering or equivalent acceptable engineering based qualification with relevant experience.
- Demonstrate ongoing training (CPD) to ensure that relevant theoretical knowledge & practice has been continually updated
