Job summary

We have a really exciting development opportunity for an experienced Band 5 Physiotherapist Therapist with a passion for rehabilitation to join our friendly therapy team in a Band 6 development post.

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust is an integrated care organisation. We are dedicated to improving the lives of local people, to maintaining an outstanding reputation for teaching and education, and to embedding innovation and research. Our vision is to be renowned as the best integrated care organisation in the NHS.

The successful candidate would work at a Band 5 level with structured objectives in order to progress to a Band 6 level within 6 months if all objectives are successfully achieved. We provide a safe and nurturing environment in which to develop this knowledge and skills. Once successfully transitioned to the Band 6 role you would take on supervision responsibilities for junior staff, support staff and students, providing an excellent opportunity to develop management and leadership skills. You would also support the 2 Band 7's with service management and development.

Main duties of the job

This post provides the opportunity to work in the integrated Intermediate care service (made up of both physiotherapists and occupational therapists), which currently provides therapy services to a predominantly frail elderly population of patients across two sites. These sites include Rowley Regis Hospital and Leasowes intermediate care facility in Smethwick.

On the units, you will be part of a multi-professional team working collaboratively with others to deliver person-centred, coordinated care from the point of admission onto the intermediate care unit, to discharge. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of conditions ranging from trauma and orthopaedic patients, MS, parkinsons, dementia, spinal injuries .

About us

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated careorganisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens in 2024 and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH from 2024 (or beyond). If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continuing your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.

We have three newly emerging strategic objectives:

  1. Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
  2. Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do
  3. Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
