Job summary
The Department is aiming to recruit enthusiastic Specialty Doctors (middle grade) to join the Emergency Medicine team at SWBH NHS Trust, which is well known for being one of the most supportive departments in the region. Successful applicants would have the opportunity to work in a department that is striving to provide the highest standard of care to patients and training opportunities for its staff.
Successful candidates would be working as part of a well-established team of Specialty Doctors, CESR trainees and Higher Specialty Trainees in Emergency Medicine. All our middle grades are given the opportunity to join our CESR program.
The Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) programme has been endorsed by the Trust Executive Team and was formally approved at the Public Trust Board on 1st March 2018. The programme involves doctors rotating for 3 months at a time to the specialities of Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Anaesthetics and Paediatrics.
All our specialty doctors are given the opportunity to be part of the successful CESR program. Three of our specialty doctors have become consultants. Many others have passed the FRCEM and in the final stages of completing towards application of CESR.

Main duties of the job
Successful applicants would be working at the level of a middle grade (Teir 4) as per RCEM guidance. You will be managing unselected patients presenting to the Emergency department as well supervising junior staff.
Middle grade doctors will be allocated roles in resus, pediatric, majors, minors, SMART and RAM areas that gives a variety and challenge to day-to-day work.
There is 24/7 Consultant cover on both sites which includes 14 hours a day of shop floor presence.
All specialty doctors would be expected to be involved in clinical Audit, QIPS and opportunities to participate in Research projects. If appointed, you would have opportunity for ultrasound training as many of our staff are faculties in the regional point of care ultrasound training.
All specialty and Trainee doctor are expected to be involved in teaching activities including the junior doctor induction as well as for the weekly and monthly teaching program in the department.

We see approximately 176,000 patients per year across two hospital sites. There are co-located Primary care and Ambulatory care services which operate seven days a week. The department employs a range of allied health professionals to support the delivery of the service and is continuing to expand these roles. There is continuing process of developing pathways with our acute specialties, to ensure streamlining and provide the highest standard of care.
We currently have 32 established middle grade posts and recruiting to additional posts. Successful candidates would be working as part of a well-established team of Specialty Doctors, CESR trainees and Higher Specialty Trainees in Emergency Medicine.
