Job summary
A new and exciting opportunity has been created to be the regional haemoglobinopathy co-ordinating centres Lead Pharmacist and to develop pharmacy provision across the Midlands region.
This post is a novel yet vital link for haemoglobinopathy network to develop and implement robust clinical pharmacy services to areas such as sickle cell and thalassemia (SCAT).
Communication, organisation, and leadership are paramount for this role as the individual will be the driving force in kick-starting and bringing together a regional service while being based at the Hub site at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
The post holder will be a professional lead within the multidisciplinary team taking responsibility for leading and delivering pharmaceutical care of the patient and developing others in the team to achieve high standards of care.
As this is a unique role, it is offered as a fixed term post with the view that upon successful implementation substantive funding will be agreed for not only this post but to also grow and establish a regional pharmacy service.
Main duties of the job
As the Lead Pharmacist the post holder will have leadership and management responsibility for pharmacy provision to the SCAT centre at SWBH. The post holder will need to create and harmonise SCAT guidelines and policies across the network and conduct regular patient forums to understand the issues facing our most vulnerable patients. They will need to work with other Trusts to produce shared care agreements ensuring equitable care amongst the region.
In addition the post holder will be responsible for managing their own patient counselling clinic following consultant review.
The post holder will oversee the implementation of new therapies, for example via NICE technology appraisals, Early Access to Medicines Schemes (EAMS) or Patient Access Scheme (PAS). Evaluate the impact on the Trust of forthcoming haematology treatments, reporting expenditure on SCAT drugs / supportive medications, and leading on audits as required.
