Job summary
The Eye Emergency Department at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre has a full time vacancy for a Band 6 Ophthalmic A&E Nurse Specialist.
If you are passionate about ophthalmology and want to belong to a dynamic team, this could be the post for you! It is desirable that the successful candidate will be able to use a Slit Lamp and be able to examine, diagnose and treat patients in the department's Urgent Care Clinic, deputise in the absence of the department manager and mentor junior nursing staff. A non-medical prescribing qualification is desirable. Mentorship and training will be given.
Main duties of the job
- Triage patients with acute and chronic ophthalmic conditions and make decisions about the most suitable pathway for that patient
- Provide telephone advice service to GPs, opticians, patients/carers/relatives and other Hospitals
- Mentor junior/new staff and provide support
- See, diagnose and treat a cohort of patients in the Urgent Care Clinic with anterior segment eye conditions
- Slit lamp skills
- Deputise in the absence of Senior Sister
- Support and lead the team when in charge
