Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a Locum General surgical consultant to join our team
for as soon as possible for a period of 11 months in the first instance prior to the appointment of a substantive post.
You will be joining a team of twelve general surgeons consisting of two firms; a six consultant colorectal team and a general/upper GI team which will also contain six consultants with this appointment.
All colleagues are required to work across the trust's main sites, although all elective general/colorectal surgical inpatient activity takes place on the Sandwell site along the vast majority of the emergency activity.
There is no on call component to this post.

Main duties of the job
To collaborate and work to maintain General Surgery services in line with strategic requirements, to provide, with the other Consultants in the specialty, routine and emergency General Surgery services to the Trust, operating a system of mutual out-of-hours cover, and cover for annual, study and professional leave.To provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties in the Trust, todevelop a special interest to complement those of the existing Consultants in the General Surgery and in accordance with the priorities of the Trust.To take responsibility for the professional supervision and appraisal of junior medical staff, in conjunction with colleagues. To participate in the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, nurses, paramedics and general practitioners.

- Attending and contributing to the Trusts Clinical Governance Programme.
- Participating in the Trusts Clinical Incident Reporting system.
- Developing a programme of personal continuing professional education and development, within available resources and within the workload and priorities of the service, as agreed with the Clinical Director and Group Director and in accordance with the Royal College requirements.
