The Nutrition and Dietetics Service at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is excited to recruit a specialist dietitian to work within our acute paediatric service; working across paediatric diabetes outpatients and inpatients. You will be working within a long established MDT, alongside colleagues who are friendly, approachable and supportive and who truly value dietitians within their service.

This is a new role at an exciting time for Dietetics, Allied Health Professionals and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS trust as we prepare to move to the brand new Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital. This move will also bring lots of opportunities for future development.

Therefore, we are looking for an innovative individual who is motivated by MDT working and keen to work in a growing diabetes specialist services

Main duties of the job

The role involves mainly working with outpatients under the care of the paediatric diabetes service, but any postholder should also expect to have a variety of inpatients on their caseload across all age groups within the children and young people population. You will have a varied and interesting case load of patients with Type 1 (including many newly diagnosed patients) and Type 2 diabetes patients and will be working with children and young people and their adult/carer.

Outpatient clinics are structured to promote MDT working and so you will never feel unsupported in your role when managing more complex patients.

You will be joining a progressive service with plans establish more group education as the pandemic restrictions are eased across the diabetes and services.

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department is a growing team ; based across Sandwell and West Birmingham. The department is friendly, sociable and progressive and you will be warmly welcomed. The culture in this department is supportive and staff welfare and wellbeing is paramount.

We have regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision sessions and education meetings. Continuing professional development is promoted and as part of the job role we will support you with training upon commencement of the role.

The Department trains student dietitians from Coventry and Birmingham City Universities across the full range of placements.
