Job summary

Applications are invited for a Substantive replacement post to complement the existing team and increase expertise in Obstetrics & Gynaecology management within the Trust and to provide leadership and innovation within the Directorates of Gynaecology/Gynae-oncology and Maternity & Perinatal Medicine. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative, and progressive Consultant to join our Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant team. The appointee will cover both sites, City Hospital, Birmingham, and Sandwell General Hospital during the on call.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with MRCOG who are on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or who will be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview. In addition, applicants should demonstrate within their application that they are fully trained in the generality of Obstetrics and Gynaecology This job is a substantive job and a replacement post for a retired colleague.

Main duties of the job

The post will enable the successful applicant to develop sub sub-specialty surgery interests to complement the existing consultant staff, develop further towards a recognized Black Country Alliance service, in conjunction with New Cross Hospital- Wolverhampton, Russell's Hall Hospital- Dudley and Manor Hospital- Walsall.

The appointee will take equal responsibility with existing Consultants for the proper functioning of the clinical service, working with clinical and managerial colleagues towards achieving and maintaining national maximum waiting times and developing clinical pathways in line with the maximum 18-week patient pathway guarantee. There is a commitment to General Obstetrics and Gynaecology on-call as part of this post.

This post will have responsibility for promoting in-house delivery suite/obstetrics and gynaecology training and clinical and managerial responsibility for further developing services within our dedicated antenatal or gynaecology clinics and by liaison with adult medical specialties.
