Job description

Job responsibilities

The Trust serves a population of over 500,000. The Trust is a key partner along with the local Clinical Commissioning Group, PCTs and local authorities in the Right Care Right Here programme which seeks to deliver an ambitious redevelopment of local health services. Following a very successful public consultation, implementation of the programme is underway with a wide range of secondary care services now being provided via new models of care in community locations.

As part of this programme, we are building our eagerly awaited Midland Metropolitan Hospital which will put us firmly on the map as one of the nations leading provider of integrated care. It will bring all of our acute services onto one site, promoting better patient safety and patient experience. Our 2020 Vision plans for admitting specialty consultants to work across the 7 days by redistributing our 5 day work. Teams are supporting cross-site work over the two existing acute sites as we prepare teams for our future models of care. This also provides excellent training and team development opportunities.

Applicants must possess recognised training and broad experience in Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine and full registration with the GMC. Applicants must be on the GMCs Specialist Register for Gastroenterology or be within 6 months of achieving CCT in Gastroenterology.

The Gastroenterology service is supported by comprehensive endoscopy, GI physiology, pathology and imaging services. Bowel Cancer Screening lists are carried out at both sites.

The successful appointees will be expected to participate in the on-call rota for gastroenterology and endoscopy. This post does not include on-call for general (internal) medicine.

The Trust has a very good reputation for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with strong links to the University of Birmingham, Aston University and Health Education West Midlands. Many of the department are actively involved in clinical trials and a research interest would be strongly supported for a suitably qualified applicant.

For an informal discussion please contact Dr Edward Fogden, consultant gastroenterologist and clinical lead for gastroenterology.
