Job summary

Are you a Speech & Language therapist seeking the freedom to lead ideas for change?

Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust are excited to announce a new team lead post within our acute Speech & Language therapy service as we seek to build on our existing leadership structure and strengthen our clinical specialist career pathways towards the opening of our new acute hospital site, Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in 2023.

The successful post holder will demonstrate advanced leadership and clinical skills to grow and develop our services to patients requiring critical care and respiratory care as part of their in-patient journey. The post requires both advanced levels of clinical practice and operational management of a team of qualified Speech & Language Therapists and therapy support workers to deliver high-quality care to these patient groups.

As a service, we take a strongly integrated, person-centred approach where promotion of independence and early intervention is valued using 'What matters to you?' principles. We are looking for a suitably experienced and aspirational candidate who shares these core values.

We are proud to say that as a team we value looking after the health and well-being of each other as highly as we do our patients and families.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to evidence sound knowledge and skills in the management of patients requiring critical care and respiratory services as part of their recovery.

Embedding robust instrumental assessment services for our patients is part of the SLT service ambition and so candidates with experience and competence in FEES and a desire to shape these assessment pathways are essential.

Upon commencement in the role new starters will be supported through a period of induction alongside ongoing managerial and clinical support and training, as well as peer support both within SLT and across the multidisciplinary team.

Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to contact Lucy Wood, Service Lead for Speech & Language Therapy on 07970 993641 or lucy.wood27@nh.net for further information or to arrange an informal visit.

Alternatively, if you feel passionately about this clinical leadership opportunity and wish to take your first step into a clinical specialist position but would need some support and development into any element of the role please do make contact to discuss this individually.
