Job summary

As specialist Fire Training Officer to assist the Trust in meeting its statutory requirements in Fire Safety throughout Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

To keep all records and incident data up to date secure and available to ensure the Trust complies with relevant Legislation and made available for auditing purposes.

To solve minor problems that may arise in the absence of the fire Safety Adviser regarding fire safety issues.

To accompany fire inspecting authorities on fire safety tours and produce and update the relevant documentation relating to the tour

To discuss and obtain fire plan drawings from Estates. To meet with Estates officers. regarding issues and other structural features that may have an impact on fire safety.

To carryout surveys regarding equipment and supply when appropriate information for replacement of equipment.

To assist in the monitoring of products and equipment so as to ensure they are being used correctly.

To develop and distribute relevant fire safety information.

Distribute and periodically collect and collate questionnaires relating to the service,

Write reports and surveys as and when required.

To provide regular feedback on any relevant matter to the Fire Safety Adviser.

To be an active member of Sandwell, Dudley and Birmingham Fire Protection Association committee.

To attend Health & Safety, Governance and any other meetings in the absence of the Fire Safety Adviser.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To prioritise the workload, develop, carryout training and monitor programmes to enable Fire Team members and nominated personnel throughout the wards and department within the Trust to be competent on the subject of Fire Safety, to enable them in turn to be able to train their own staff in relation to fire safety. To carry out other periodic Fire safety training that may be required within the Trust for Junior Doctors lone/weekend workers as required.

To assist and monitor the development of a programme of fire exercises and scenarios ensuring compliance with current legislation. To carryout fire drills safely taking into account the nature of the area identified to enhance the existing Induction and Mandatory Training programmes. Drills will be carried out annually and will take into account a pre drill risk assessment and liasing with the Managers of the particular area following completion of the exercises.

To carryout and assist with fire safety audits Trust wide, collate the information electronically and to have the ability to solve problems as they occur relating to the audits and to act on the findings feeding back information to the Fire Safety Adviser following each audit.

To attend fire incidents when on site depending on availability, liase with the fire team to then act upon the findings. To investigate all other fire signals via the incident form consulting with the relevant manager of the area and all involved in the incident records to be kept and fed back to the appropriate Managers. The Fire Safety Adviser to be consulted in all aspects of the incidents.
