Applications are invited for an ENT, Head-Neck Surgery. Junior Specialist Doctor (higher) based at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust commencing August 2022 for a period of 2 years in the first instance (Extendable). This post provides an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly department at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust - a busy ENT unit, covering City Hospital, Birmingham and Sandwell General Hospital, West Bromwich with an equally busy elective ENT services covering multiple sub specialties. This non training job is at SPR level and would suit doctors working towards joining a core surgical training or looking for CESR in ENT.
Applicants must hold full GMC registration and have achieved foundation trainee level competencies and 2-3 years ENT experience. Applicants should also possess the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, have good interpersonal skills, have caring attitude towards patients and evidence of good clinical practice.This post has a varied weekly timetable, which includes clinical commitments and opportunity to attend theatre lists. The post-holder will be responsible for the care of both elective ENT inpatients as well as acute admissions via A&E under the supervision of a consultant. There are excellent educational opportunities within the department. Audit and research activities are actively encouraged.

Main duties of the job
The posts will initially be based primarily at Sandwell General Hospital although elective and emergency care is also delivered at City Hospital Site, Birmingham to include Birmingham Treatment Centre. ENT outpatient services are delivered from both main sites through dedicated and fully equipped departments. Adult inpatient and all paediatric care is delivered at Sandwell hospital site with daycase and short-stay surgery delivered at Birmingham Treatment Centre. As the Trust will be reconfiguring its services in preparation for the implementation of the Right Care Right Here Programme the postholder will therefore be required to work at any of the Trust's sites. The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the emergency on-call rota at 1 in 5 frequency.
The successful applicant will form part of a team of 6 ENT middle grade junior doctors in our department led by 6 Consultant ENT surgeons. The Department is further supported by 2 Clinical Nurse Specialists, dedicated Outpatient nursing staff, 3 SHO equivalents (Core Surgical Training/GPVTS) and a team of Foundation year doctors.
