Due to promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly capable, dynamic and motivated pharmacist to lead and manage the pharmacy technical services at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. We are looking for a pharmacist with experience in aseptic services, clinical trials and Quality Control, with excellent personal communication and leadership skills to join our forward thinking and friendly team.

The post would be suitable for an individual with significant experience in technical services looking to develop their career as a leader. The individual should have a proven track record of both leadership and management experience to lead, direct and co-ordinate service developments and initiatives. You will be an experienced pharmacist with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders to lead a team to deliver an innovative service. You will have excellent influencing and people management skills and experience of HR management of a large team would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

Based at both our City and Sandwell sites, you will be leading and developing the technical pharmacy service as we prepare to move to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, managing and leading your clinical and operational team and services across technical services, aseptics, chemotherapy, haematology, Quality Control and clinical trials. You will manage and lead on technical aspects in and outside of the lab and department, including ambient and refrigerated temperature control, conditions for transportation and assessment of specials and outsourced medicines and materials.

As part of the senior leadership team you will have the opportunity to fully participate in development of the department's strategic plans and deputise for the Deputy Chief Pharmacist and Chief Pharmacist as appropriate at external meetings. The ability to generate a vision and strategy for patient centred pharmacy services is therefore essential.

About us

We are a large Integrated Care Organisation serving the large and diverse communities from West Bromwich to Central Birmingham. The Trust includes City Hospital (including the Birmingham Midland Eye Centre), Sandwell Hospital, Rowley Regis Hospital and Leasowes Intermediary Care Centre, in addition to the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital currently being built. We also house a number of community wards on our main sites.

We are a progressive department and are keen to embrace innovative ideas. Following significant investment, our pharmacy department has led on innovations in automated medicines storage (Pyxis) across our most acute areas of work and improved drug security, utilising Abloy keys across the rest of the organisation. Robotic dispensing is well established and we have recently successfully implemented Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration as part of a full Electronic Patient Record throughout the entire Trust.

So if you are interested in working in a challenging and ultimately rewarding environment, come and join us as we prepare to move to a brand new hospital - we're going places - approximately 2 miles down the road!
