Assistant Psychologist

Job summary

The role will involve running psychological groups and brief individual interventions for patients. All clinical duties relating to psychological assessment and intervention are delivered under the FULLclinical oversight and supervision of a qualified psychologist, with the qualified psychologist assuming clinical responsibility for the assistant's case load. To be responsible for supporting and enhancing the provision of Specialist Psychological Services to clients with complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties entering the Acute psychiatric Services in the area under the professional guidance of a qualified psychologist.To undertake structured assessment and therapeutic psychological interventions in these services to a level appropriate to the post holders skill using own independent initiative within guidelines provided by a qualified psychologist.To undertake clinically related administration, audit and research projects, teaching and service improvement project work under the professional guidance of a qualified psychologist.

Main duties of the job

  • To work closely as part of the MDT, part of ward rounds, safety huddles, ward routines, based predominantly on the wards to be able to actively support and work with patients both though structural engagements such as psychology groups, initial interventions and short-term, brief 1:1 therapy sessions to aid discharge and to link patients into resources in the community.
  • To also support with the ward environment and help to develop a therapeutic environment and trauma informed practices.
  • Formulate implement and review person centred care plans including the psychological treatment and management of the service user's problems working closely with the service users and senior staff.

The High-Cost Area (HCA) allowance, also referred to as London Weighting is a payment made to employees who work in London and the surrounding areas.

As this post is based in Dartford the successful applicant will receive an additional payment each month.
