Join our dynamic Forensic Occupational Therapy Team at KMPT!

Are you an innovative, compassionate, and recovery-focused Occupational Therapist ready to take the next step in your career? We are looking for a Band 6 OT to join our established Forensic OT team at the Trevor Gibbens Unit (TGU) - a medium secure hospital providing specialist care for adults with complex mental health needs and forensic histories.

You'll be working across specific pathways with patients detained under the Mental Health Act, supporting their recovery journey, trauma-informed care, and risk-sensitive practice.

About you:

oHCPC-registered Occupational Therapist

oPassionate about forensic mental health and recovery-oriented practice

oSkilled in assessment, planning and delivering occupation-focused interventions

oConfident working within the MOHO framework

oAble to manage risk within a secure environment and contribute to robust clinical documentation

o A collaborative practitioner who thrives in a multi-disciplinary team

Main duties of the job

o To ensure assessment of service users and analyse and interpret information gained to form an accurate formulation of function, strengths, capabilities and occupational needs.

o To work collaboratively with service users, staff, and carers to identify goals to determine and deliver an appropriate intervention/recovery plan that maximises occupational engagement and performance whilst balancing risk, and promoting choice and independence.

o To monitor, evaluate and modify therapeutic interventions to measure progress and increase efficacy for the best possible service user outcomes and experience.

o To act as an experienced clinician supporting best practice in line with NICE guidance and professional standards

o To demonstrate clinical leadership skills through the management of dedicated projects and approved quality improvement initiatives

  • A recognised Occupational Therapist Professional qualification
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Trained as a Practice Educator with experience of managing learners in the work place.

Desirable

  • Registered member of the relevant professional body and / or special interest group
  • Evidence of post graduate development through formal postgraduate courses or experience

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in mental health OT
  • Extensive case work experience of working with mentally ill clients
  • Manage a defined caseload of service users with occupational needs using evidence based, service user centred, health promotion and relapse prevention orientated principles and practice.
  • Experience of delivering clinical supervision
  • Experience of developing learners and staff in the work place

Desirable

  • Experience of being involved in service developments or audits
  • Experience of working within forensic mental health

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of MoHO and assessment tools or appropriate model of practice
  • Ability to make decisions and work collaboratively as part of an inter-professional team
