The Trust is seeking to recruit a Locum Specialty Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry to join the Forensic Psychiatry service in Maidstone for an initial period of 6 months with a possible extension for a further 6 months, subject to review.
This is a 1 WTE post of 40 hours (10 PAs) per week. However, candidates who are unable to work full-time are welcome to apply. The sessional assessment will be reviewed annually through the job plan process, having regard to work commitments.
The post is for Forensic Psychiatry, based at the Trevor Gibbens Unit and the post holder will provide medical duties to the inpatient areas, Penshurst and Groombridge wards. The post holder will also work closely with a multidisciplinary team which includes an advanced clinical Practitioner (Penshurst ward) and GP trainee (Groombridge ward).
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
1. Provide medical treatment within a model of multi-disciplinary care. The post holder would be expected to provide input into the care and treatment of 16 inpatients (spread across Penshurst and Groombridge wards) and work alongside the ACP and GP trainee to provide cover and cross-cover for both wards.
2. Attend weekly clinical team meetings and perform medical duties that are decisions of that meeting.
3. Compile a patient's history from a number of sources, and prepare case summaries and CPA reports.
4. Prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers' Hearings and give evidence.
5. Liaise with other clinical teams within the Trevor Gibbens Unit.
6. Liaise with forensic community services and other care providers like for example GPs
7. Provide advice and support to junior medical staff and resident doctors.
8. Assessments of patients in prison, out of area or in high-security units
9. Attend the service referrals meeting, and, when appropriate, perform assessments on patients referred to the service.
10. Work with the supervising consultant and the other consultant forensic psychiatrists in Trevor Gibbens Unit
11. Participate in clinical governance and clinical audit/research.
12. The post holder will either be Section 12(2) approved or expected to actively work toward approval and include it in their PDP.
