Job summary

This post is within an adult outpatient Neuropsychiatry department. It offers fantastic opportunities to provide psychological therapy using a range of therapeutic approaches and formats (individual and group work).

An interest, or previous experience in neuropsychology and/or neuropsychiatry would be an advantage, as would an interest in mind-body connections and dissociative symptoms.

Neuropsychological assessment skills would be an advantage but not essential. Referrals are often via Neurology and we support people with both functional neurological symptoms, and complex psychiatric problems secondary to long-term neurological conditions.

The post holder will join a team which currently has input from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, two Senior Clinical Psychologist's a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, and specialist CPN's.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist to contribute to the assessment and psychological treatment of outpatients referred to the West Kent Neuropsychiatry Service. The service provides complex assessment and treatment of functional neurological conditions (e.g. dissociative seizures), and psychiatric complications associated with long term neurological conditions (e.g. multiple sclerosis). The role requires close working and excellent communication with members of the multidisciplinary team as well as patients and their families. It also requires liaison with outside care agencies, health professionals and voluntary services as required.

To undertake high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist psychology interventions in the neuropsychiatry service, taking substantial professional responsibility and exercising autonomous judgement in their professional practice. Individual and/or group treatments may be offered to patients.
