Job summary

Lead for Psychological Practice Acute (job share) 0.5 WTE - Band 8d

We have an exciting substantive opportunity for an experienced psychological practitioner. The role will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to help further develop the leadership of psychological practice within the Acute Directorate alongside a job share.

As part of the Directorate senior management team you will be able to support ongoing developments and help shape those services.

We welcome applications from experienced psychological practitioner colleagues who have current and substantial experience of leading psychological services.

The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job

To provide strategic professional leadership to services in the Acute Directorate, ensuring the planning and development of a systematic response to service need, interpreting professional policies and ensuring that all services operates at the highest level of quality and current best practice.

With research and development a major responsibility, to take a lead role in the development and implementation of policy for the service system as a whole.

To be responsible for the operational management of Psychological Therapy provision and provide line management support to the staff within the service.

To provide clinical services at a high level of expertise, supporting and advising colleagues on all issues concerned with the practice of psychological therapies and providing expert clinical consultation and professional guidance to other psychological practitioners.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctorate in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS.
  • Relevant advanced specialist training/qualifications in the skills relevant to the specialty area judged to meet BPS standards for consultant grade by National External Assessment

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical /counselling psychologist for a minimum of six years, including substantial post-qualification highly specialist level experience within the specialty.
  • Substantial training and experience supervising Doctoral psychology trainees.
  • Experience of working with adults across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrable experience of working successfully in multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams and within leadership teams promoting effective team working

  • Ability to plan and organise over the long term, the delivery of a significant specialist service in the light of a thorough understanding of national policy and an expert interpretation of current professional best practice.
