Main duties of the job
As Charity and Volunteers Lead, your work will support KMPT in our internal and broader system transformation roles to ensure we place the patient at the heart of everything we do. The role will contribute operationally/tactically/strategically to the formulation and delivery of the Trust and System strategic objectives including overseeing all the work programmes and projects related to the directorate portfolio.
The role is to lead our Charity and Volunteer team which will consist of two main components:
- Working with the Corporate Trustee, the Head of Operational Excellence (People), Deputy Director of Transformation and Partnerships and the Director of Transformation and Partnerships to provide strategic and operational leadership to the Charity function of KMPT.
- To work with the the Head of Operational Excellence (People), Deputy Director of Transformation and Partnerships and the Director of Transformation and Partnerships to provide strategic and operational leadership to the Volunteers function of KMPT.
To promote and extend the reach of the KMPT Charity through building a portfolio of income streams including grant applications, community engagement and corporate support, then overseeing the delivery of the impact to maximise benefit for our patients and people.
To promote and extend the function of our Volunteers to provide an outstanding level of service to patients and all directorates across our sites and harmonise the working alongside the Charity.

Communication and Working Relationship Skills
- Engage a broad range of audiences and potential donors, ensuring a sensitive approach to emotional circumstances when dealing with potential donors.
- Proactively and positively contribute to the successful overall performance and reputation of the Charity, driving forward delivery of the Charitys objectives engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- As the charity expert, ensure that the Corporate Trustee is given the information it needs to discharge its responsibilities, including reporting to the Corporate Trustee on the performance of the Charity and active attendance at Non-Exec led Charitable Funds Committee meetings.
- Raise the profile of volunteers and volunteering within the Trust and externally.
- Raise the Charitys profile and brand awareness and develop a communications strategy that complements the Charity Strategy, working closely with the Trusts Communication Team.
- Lead a clear vision for developing new income streams and maximising the effectiveness of established fundraising methods, including establishing long-term relationships with Corporate supporters and Grants and Foundations.
- Representing the Charity in discussions with senior officials of the Trust and external stakeholders including Kent and Medway and NHS Charities Together.
- Increase the level of knowledge and skills within the Trust through documenting key learning and support others to develop their professional abilities.

- To develop and grow our volunteer programme in line with the strategic direction of the Trust, NHSI/England and the Integrated Care Board (ICB) in Kent and Medway to represent the diverse culture and abilities of our patient demographic.
- To deliver a robust recruitment and placement process for the mutual benefit of volunteer, staff and patients, ensuring adherence to best practice NHS guidance and the legal framework around volunteering.

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation
- To develop and grow the Charity in line with the strategic and business plans agreed by the Corporate Trustee and Director of Transformation and Partnerships
- Responsible for ensuring all divisions and departments are aware of the charitable funds available, appropriate fundraising governance and how to manage submit an application.
- Ensure that all donor and volunteer data is handled confidentially, with robust processes and procedures that meet the GDPR and Data Protection Law.
- Acting as ambassador for the Trust and promoting good relationships with stakeholders including NHSI/England and Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board around volunteering.
- To keep abreast of any changes to charity law or NHS guidance in line with volunteering.

Responsibility for Human Resources, e.g. Supervision, Training, HR Advice and Management
- Support the development and wellbeing of staff to help ensure excellent care is consistently delivered across all trust services now and in the future.
- To lead, manage and develop fundraising staff via Charity and Volunteers Manager.
- To lead, manage and develop the voluntary services staff.
- To oversee volunteer mandatory training to ensure compliance. Working closely with the Head of Staff Development, and Governance lead to develop an accessible programme fit for purpose.
