Job summary

The Trust is seeking a specialty doctor to join the Medway Mental Health of Learning Disability Team. The vacancy has arisen as the result of a retirement, and the Trust regards this as an opportune moment to develop the functioning of the team. There is close working with the local community learning disability teams and Social Services.

Main duties of the job

  • There are 2 routine clinics, including CPA review meetings each week in addition to Adhoc or emergency reviews. The ratio of new to follow up review appointments is about 1:4. Other multidisciplinary team members (Psychologist, Nurses and external agencies like Social worker etc) are often involved in joint assessments, especially for initial assessments. There is a fortnightly (in the first instance) supervision with the supervising consultant (Dr Titi Akinsola).
  • Management of complex cases; Role in assessment of referrals; Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness; Liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies; Mental Health Act implementation; Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership

Job responsibilities

It is envisaged that the post holder will work 10 programmed activities over 5 days. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than 6 weeks with the clinical manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder.

The overall split of the programmed activities is 8.5 to be devoted to direct clinical care and 1.5 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). The timetable is indicative only. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and associate medical director or clinical manager 6 weeks after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.
