Job description

Job responsibilities

Applications are also invited from existing KMPT staff on Agenda for Change terms and conditions who meet the Person Specification for this role. This is a new opportunity for internal applications to be received across all professions; including psychiatry, psychology, allied health professionals and nursing.

The successful applicant will retain their substantive role at their existing pay band and pay point. The Clinical Director role will be fulfilled via an internal secondment from the substantive role into the Clinical Director role for 0.3WTE. The Clinical Director secondment will be remunerated at Band 9 level.

Please set out in the application your preference ranking 1 to 5 firstly for the Directorate and secondly for the Community of Practice. The five Communities of Practice are Older Peoples Mental Health, Community Mental Health, Psychosis Care, Urgent Care and Hospital Liaison and Forensic Services. The purpose of the Community of Practice is to create a community of clinicians and managers with the knowledge and skills in a specialist area who can lead on best practice and can ensure we retain the specialism of our services at KMPT.

Interviews are planned for 15 September 2023 and will consist of presentation and panel interview.

The role will inspire and motivate colleagues with a range of different philosophies and perspectives in order to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients.

Main responsibilities are:

  • To provide clinical leadership and support the Service Director in the Directorate in overseeing the financial position of the Directorate by ensuring that services are provided within the agreed financial envelope whilst maintaining appropriate clinical standards.
  • To provide clinical leadership and perspectives on improving clinical pathways and programmes that deliver CIP savings as well as improvements in quality and patient care in a specific clinical specialism.
  • To provide clinical leadership with building a culture of continuous improvement of services embedding quality improvement in the Directorate.
  • To ensure doctors in the directorate participate in the appraisal process and contribute to the appraisal system by joining the pool of appraisers and completing an agreed number of appraisals each year as allocated by the revalidation team. For non-medics, this will be managed by the usual appraisal policy and process.
  • Lead on Quality Account Priorities in Directorates.
  • To provide leadership in building and embedding a just and learning culture within the Directorate so the right environment is created for every employee to maximise their potential.
  • To provide clinical leadership in developing excellent relationships with GPs, Community Providers (KCHFT), Clinical Commissioning Group, Acute Hospitals and the Primary Care Networks.
  • To represent the Trust when appropriate in handling media, CCG or other enquiries, around service developments, serious incidents or homicides.
  • To act as an ambassador for the Trust in key clinical commissioning forums, including the ICS and PCN meetings.
  • To lead on the development of the research and audit strategies and implementation plans within services as agreed by the service and Trust. This includes making the final decision on the appropriateness of any clinical research studies that are being proposed within the Directorate. To ensure that the research programmes adopted within the Directorate have practical implications that enable us to improve services, both within the Trust but also across the wider healthcare economy.
  • Undertake face to face clinical work. For medical staff, this will be for 0.7 WTE at Consultant level most likely within the Directorate, based on expertise, service need and individual needs. For Agenda for Change staff, this will be at a level representing experience equivalent to consultant-level.
  • To promote and display via personal actions support for the Trusts key policies on equality and diversity, and use of the recovery orientated approach for people with longer term problems.
  • To ensure trust values are embedded through your own leadership behaviours and ensuring feedback is given when the values are not upheld
