Job summary

This is an exciting job for a Clinical Psychologist interested to develop their skills in clinical neuropsychological assessment, neurorehabilitation and therapeutic approaches with stroke survivors and their families/carers. The position would suit someone newly qualified as a preceptorship post (7/ 8A) is available or someone bringing transferable skills from another 8A post.The office base is in Canterbury alongside other psychologists from the service. Travel to clinic sites and home visits in the South Kent Coast locality will be required.

The job is focused on developing bespoke neuropsychological interventions for stroke survivors (and their families or carers) in the South Kent Coast area. The work could include supporting people with their emotional adjustment to changes that have occurred or offering cognitive assessment and work around rehabilitation goals. We take a client centred approach, helping people identify and reach their goals.There is a strong rehabilitation focus and a range of therapeutic interests held by clinicians including psychodynamic, systemic, mindfulness, ACT and CBT.The service has contributed to relevant neuropsychology projects, collaborations, innovations and policy regionally and nationally and has close links to Salomons Clinical Psychology Training Course.The neuropsychology team have a commitment to training and CPD. Supervision is provided by a Principal Clinical Psychologist with lots of opportunities for additional support.

Main duties of the job

To provide a community clinical neuropsychology service in the South Kent Coast area as part of the stroke pathway providing high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist neuropsychological interventions.

To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.

Members of our service receive regular supervision and there is a commitment to ongoing training and professional development with support for attending external training courses and regular in-house CPD events. The service has supported many staff to undertake further qualifications in clinical neuropsychology.

To be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi-disciplinary assessment of stroke survivors and their families.
To contribute specialist psychological advice to the multi-disciplinary formulation of therapeutic/intervention plans, and to be involved in, or oversee specialist psychological aspects of their implementation in collaboration with other staff.
To undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant individuals and provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi-disciplinary team.
To consult with and provide specialist psychological guidance to carers and families of stroke survivors.
To exercise autonomous professional judgement and responsibility for the psychological management of cases on own case load.
