Job summary

We have an exciting vacancy for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic community mental health team in Ashford and Canterbury CMHT . Although this post will be based in Canterbury, you will be working with a team of Occupational Therapists across Canterbury and Ashford as we look to expand our Occupational Therapy interventions across both localities, both in person and virtually.

This post would be suitable for both a newly qualified occupational therapist, or someone with some experience looking to expand their knowledge and experience within a community mental health setting. You will have a strong interest in developing skills in working with service users who have complex mental health needs. We are looking for a practitioner with good communication and liaison skills who is forward thinking and enthusiastic about innovative ways of working.

All community teams across Kent are looking to deliver a new care pathway approach, where service users will be offered a menu of interventions. These interventions would be offered by various professionals, but Occupational Therapists will play a key part in this process.

Main duties of the job

We are currently looking to develop the Occupational Therapy part of the care pathway approach with particular focus on:

Recovery Groups - supporting individuals to understand and manage their own mental wellbeing and work towards achieving their goals.

STROT - OT and Support Workers working to support people to transition successfully into primary care and accessing local resources.

OT Personality Disorder group and individual work also supporting a PD Change program offering 8 educational sessions to support people understand and develop coping strategies for intense emotions.

We are particularly interested in applicants who wish to develop specialist skills in the areas the Model of human occupation (MOHO), use of the Recovery Model, and care of those with Personality Disorder. Potential post-holders should demonstrate a capacity for creative and flexible working, and willingness to work in a diverse, challenging and multi-agency environment.

KEY RESULT AREAS: To ensure assessment of service users and analyse and interpret information gained to form an accurate formulation of function, strengths, capabilities and occupational needs. To work collaboratively with service users, staff, and carers to identify goals to determine and deliver an appropriate intervention/recovery plan which maximises occupational engagement and performance whilst balancing risk, and promoting choice and independence. To monitor, evaluate and modify therapeutic interventions in order to measure progress and increase efficacy for the best possible service user outcomes and experience. To act as a competent clinician supporting best practice in line with NICE guidance and professional standards
