Job summary
The Trust is seeking a Senior Speciality / Specialist doctor to join the Liaison Psychiatry service. The vacancy has arisen as the result of an expansion of services towards the 'Core 24' Liaison Psychiatry model. The service supports QEQM Hospital which see patients from across east Kent.
The Liaison service provides input to the following areas:
Emergency Department (ED). The purpose of this element of the service is to assess anyone aged 18 or over who presents with a known or suspected mental illness.
In-patient Wards. The aim of this element of the service is to provide specialist psychosocial assessments to inpatients and management advice to general hospital staff for any person aged 18 or over.
These are 10 PA posts however the Trust would welcome a discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support work-life balance.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including licence to practice.
The Trust has now moved to a position where MHA Section 12(2) Approval holders are expected to contribute to a middle-tier non-residential on call rota attracting an extra 1PA and 2% (of a 10 PA salary) pro-rata for part time. Specialty doctors who do not hold Section 12 (2) Approval are expected to work towards this and will be supported to do so.

About the Care Group/Role
The post holder will be providing 8.5 PA clinical sessions to the Liaison Psychiatry Service and 1.5 PA Supporting Professional Activities. The Liaison Psychiatry Service serves the William Harvey Hospital under East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. The service's current working hours are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This post holder will work with patients referred aged 18 or over, without upper age limit.
The successful applicant will be required to have enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

- To provide medical input to the Multidisciplinary Liaison Team
- Availability to act as Section 12(2) approved doctor for the purpose of Mental Health Act assessments where approved. If not approved then to work towards Section 12(2) approval
- To ensure effective liaison occurs between mental health services and the acute hospital, and also with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors as appropriate
- To help deliver a programme of training and education for acute hospital staff and mental health staff
- To participate in clinical governance and clinical audit/research
- To comply with the Trusts agreed policies and procedure and always to practice in line with the Royal College of Psychiatrists Good Psychiatric Practice and the General Medical Councils Good Medical Practice
- The post holder will either be Section 12(2) approved or expected to actively work toward approval and include it in their PDP. As a section 12(2) approved doctor, the post holder will carry out assessments and provide medical recommendations under the Mental Health Act as and when required, including Section 136 assessments.
- So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise/cross cover from time to time for absent colleagues.
- The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- The post holder will participate in the on call rota up to a maximum frequency of 1 in 9. If, and once section 12(2) approved, this will be second on call to the consultant and duties will be assessments of section 136 at St Martins Hospital. If not section 12(2) approved, the doctor will join the junior doctors out of hours rota. The second on call rota attracts a 2% salary supplement and an additional PA.
- The post holder will undertake commitments in the teaching of junior doctors as considered appropriate to their level of experience and teaching.
- Supervision: The post holder will receive regular supervision from his supervising consultant.
- The post holder will participate in the annual Appraisal process in order to meet the Trusts Appraisal and Revalidation guideline
- The post holder will be expected to participate in the East Kent ECT rota (however this is currently inactive)
- The post holder will work closely with the Care Group Consultants in the Trust and their teams. It is expected that he/she will contribute in the management, development and evaluation of the Service in the Trust.
