A number of exciting opportunities have arisen within the Trust for floating fixed term trainees to support with vacancies on the junior doctor rotation. We are looking to recruit versatile and adaptable individuals to join the teams in the Trust.
This position offers a rewarding opportunity to gain relevant psychiatry experience at trainee level in order to support an application for the training scheme or substantive Specialty Doctor.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual that works to the highest standards, is able to think autonomously and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

OBJECTIVES:
- To develop the basic skills in the assessment, management and treatment of psychiatric patients in an inpatient settings.
- To develop the basic skills in the assessment and management of psychiatric treatment in out patient settings, through regular attendance in a community mental health team, under outpatient consultant supervision.
- To develop a holistic, patient centred approach to the care of patients working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- To develop a responsive style of care to meet the individual needs of patients, their carers and their families.
- To develop an understanding of the biological, psychological and social contributions to the cause and treatment of psychiatric conditions.
- To participate with the team in providing a high standard of care to patients and facilitation of their discharge into the community.
- To develop basic audit and research skills.
- To develop an understanding of the working of the Mental Health Act 1983.
- To develop skills in risk assessment and management for inpatients with complex presentations.
- To develop skills in the recognition and relevant management of safeguarding concerns for children and adults.

- To develop an awareness of the ethical dilemmas commonly occurring in psychiatry.

CLINICAL DUTIES:
- Taking full histories, including a mental state examination and conducting physical examination with special focus on the central nervous system for in patients and inpatient setting and for new assessments in out patient clinics.
- Making provisional diagnosis, summarising the history and making a provisional care plan jointly with the nursing and or allied health professional staff.
- Requesting appropriate laboratory investigations and ensuring that the results are documented in the notes. Bringing to the attention of the Consultant and/or Specialty Doctor any abnormal results if deemed necessary.
- Act on any abnormal laboratory or imaging results and liaise with appropriate teams as necessary under supervision of the Consultant
- Taking corroborative history from the relatives and arranging family meetings in relation to the management of patients on the ward and in respect of future management in the community.
- Maintaining close collaboration between junior and senior doctors working in other specialities and when making appropriate of patients to other medical departments William Harvey Hospital.
- Maintaining close working relationship with the team admin and ward clerk.
- Maintaining close collaboration with the relevant members of the community mental health teams and Crisis Resolution home Treatment team
- Carrying out routine reviews of patients mental and physical status.
- Taking blood when necessary, recording ECG and other physical investigations results on RiO.
- Participation in assessment and reviews of patients in hospital and outpatients.
- Participation in ward rounds and MDT meetings
- Participation in the on call day/night rota associated with the job
- Writing clear comprehensive clinical records in RIO
- Writing up leave medications and discharge summaries for patients in timely fashion
- Alerting senior medical colleague in the team or if necessary any available senior medical colleague, concerns in relation to the health and safety of patients, colleagues and relatives as appropriate to the situation.
- Providing cross cover for absent colleagues and ensuring leave is planned in collaboration with relevant others and in a timely manner.
- Carrying a pager/mobile and responding promptly to calls.
- Attendance at training and teaching relevant to the post
- Attendance at supervision with the clinical supervisor/consultant.
- Taking responsibility for own supervision by completing the agreed personal development
- Complete allocated discharge summaries and other reports in timely fashion.
- To have annual appraisal with Tutor/DME and support for revalidation

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Professional Registrations
- Appropriate right to work as a doctor in the UK
Desirable
- Additional related qualifications, e.g. ALS, ALERT.
- The applicant will have practised continuously as a doctor for the last 12 months. If not, evidence of maintaining clinical knowledge and skills must be provided.
- The applicant will have attained relevant additional postgraduate academic qualifications e.g. a degree.
