Band 3 Planned Investigations Unit (PIU) Healthcare Assistant.

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 3 to develop their skills within a well-led and well-supported environment. As a team we are committed to providing our patients a gold-standard service, this role will require someone who is dedicated to working as part of a team to continually improve the service in line with the UHSussex trust vision.
PIU is a fantastic Monday to Friday service for patients requiring infusions for management of their long term neurological conditions. It is a day unit based on Clayton Ward in which patients attend as outpatients to receive a variety of infusions. The successful candidate will be competent in venepuncture and cannulation skills as well as monitoring patients during the infusions using the NEWS2 in line with the trusts escalation policy.
Main duties of the job
To welcome patients to the PIU and take bloods (specified by nurse) and cannulate the patient on arrival. If required obtain and record urinalysis and send sample, and blood sugar. Perform and record base line observations using the National Early Warning Score.
Escort patients to toilet where required. To assist in meeting the patient's nutrition and hydration needs throughout the day.
Prep notes for clinic and complete blood forms. Coding of patient episode and update MS databases.
Maintaining stock levels and stock rotation, completing cleaning rota Do a pre screen clinic on Mondays - specialist blood tests, ECG, urinalysis, showing patients to XRAY.
