We are looking for physio therapist to join our multidisciplinary team. The team comprises of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapists and Nursing Staff.

The post holder will be supported closely by the Ward Manager, the ACP, and Matron.

Recognising the national pressures within acute inpatient services, South West Yorkshire Partnership Trust have developed a priority inpatient program focussing on the development of our inpatient services with priority focus on workforce, clinical pathways, and management of clinical acuity.

We are looking for an innovative, committed, and caring practitioner. The successful candidate will be required to work autonomously and as part of the MDT, demonstrating sound clinical decision making with a passion for working in an Acute OPS setting.

As a Physio on a busy inpatient ward, you will support the MDT in the provision of high-quality care for older adults with a wide range of mental health and physical health problems. You will be confident, have good people skills and able to challenge tactfully and constructively and able to gain the respect and confidence of nursing, medical and MDT staff. You will have ample opportunity to build your skills and develop

he successful candidate will be expected to work 30 hours; you will also be supported to gain invaluable experience and grow in confidence.

Main duties of the job

The ward physio will be able to provide support to the patients and Team within Crofton ensuring that you have kept up to date.

To contribute to service development and in the wider debate of physiotherapy issues, strategic planning, and professional development.

To use specialist physiotherapy knowledge and skills to assess, formulate goals, implement treatment, and evaluate outcomes involving the service user and family/carer.

It is important that you participate in the assessment and interventions to encourage the patients recovery, considering both mental health and physical health in an integrated approach.

The physio will be expected to attend MDT Reviews and contribute important information during these meetings. Our Therapy Team work on the Ward and are an integral part of the ward team, as a physio you will be required to contribute to the patients care plans and recovery plans, giving advice and support to the staff team as well.

We are very aware that Families and Carers are important, and our physio will need to involve them during the admission and leading to the discharge period. The information from detailed assessments that are collaboratively created with the patient and their families and carers, is important to recovery of the patients.

The post holder will be a core member of the physiotherapy service providing specialist therapeutic interventions to adults and older people with mental health problems.

  • To assist in the clinical activities of the therapy team and wider mental health services and provide supervision to support staff.
  • To contribute to service development and in the wider debate of physiotherapy issues, strategic planning and professional development
  • To utilise specialist physiotherapy knowledge and skills to assess, formulate goals, implement treatment and evaluate outcomes involving the service user and family/carer.
  • To independently manage a defined caseload of people with a wide range of specific difficulties enabling the person to fulfil their functional potential with supervision from a senior member of staff when necessary.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within a wider multi-agency community

KEY RESULT AREAS:

1. Clinical

1.1. To ensure therapeutic interventions are of a high professional standard, informed by evidence based practice and involves the service user and carer in all aspects of the care programme

1.2. To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the effect of disability providing training and advice on lifestyle changes/adaptations to the clients social and physical environments

1.3. To undertake specific standardised and non standardised assessments to formulate the overall treatment plan in conjunction with the service user

1.4. To interpret the assessment results in order to plan and implement a client centred treatment programme on an individual and/or group basis using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals

1.5. To contribute to a co-ordinated team approach throughout the assessment and in meeting the service users needs including developing and maintaining close working relationships with all relevant services and agencies.

1.6. To participate in the evaluation of the effectiveness of clinical interventions

1.7. To continue clinical interventions where necessary to assist in the transition of skills from an inpatient setting to living independently within the community

1.8. To work effectively within the multi-agency team ensuring that both written and verbal communication is clearly maintained to ensure a seamless service

1.9. To be responsible for the maintenance of appropriate clinical records concerned with service user treatment, in accordance with risk management documentation guidelines

1.10. To attend appropriate clinical team meetings, referral meetings, case conferences, care programme approach meetings and any other as required by clinical need and as directed by the Line/Service Manager

1.11. To provide accurate and timely reports, statistical data through the electronic Clinical Information System and other information as required

1.12. To participate in monthly clinical supervision and to provide clinical supervision to other therapy staff and Support Workers

2. Management

2.1. To assist the provision of clinical involvement within the therapy team and wider mental health services and to contribute to service development

2.2. To ensure that all significant events, relevant clinical issues and difficulties which may arise are communicated with the relevant Line Manager/Service Manager

2.3. To direct work to other team members such as; junior staff, therapy assistants and other support workers giving due consideration to their skills and abilities

2.4. To carry out appraisal and development reviews with junior physiotherapists and support workers and to contribute to the reviews of other staff as appropriate

2.5. To report sickness/absence issues for staff that are supervised directly by the post-holder, bringing issues to the attention of the Principal Physiotherapist or Specialist Physiotherapist.

3.1. To participate in the development and implementation of the annual service improvement plan and annual audit programme
