Job summary
37.5 Hours Per Week.
This plumbing role is based at
Fieldhead hospital in Wakefield but covers other health centres in the
Wakefield area that sits under the trust footprint.
The role is maintaining all
aspects of the mechanical systems both internally and externally on the
buildings which covers over 15 inpatient mental health units.
The work is varied and changes
on a day to day basis in line with service needs, requirements and
prioritisation of works.
Estates trust vehicles are
utilised for traveling around the footprint of the trust and the successful
candidates skillset may at times need to be used on the Barnsley properties
which includes Kendray hospital, Cheswold Park and the surrounding areas.
This is an exciting role for
the right candidate that likes a challenge in a very demanding environment.
The successful candidate will
become part of a small team of plumbers who work in with and support other
trades in day to day duties.
Preventive maintenance works are the main
duties of this post but you will also cover reactive and new works which gives
a varied balance of work.

Main duties of the job
To carry out routine mechanical
maintenance of Trust properties
Be able to be fully conversant with
various types of mechanical system e.g Hot and cold water systems.
Central Heating/underfloor heating.
HVAC.
Water Hygiene practices to the HTM

The
post holder will be expected to keep up all relevant training both trade
specific and mandatory NHS.
The postholder will manage his/her
own workload and liaise with departmental managers for access to ward and
patient areas.
To ensure mechanical stock levels
are maintained and order stock and parts as required.
To ensure the quality of work is of
a high standard at all times.
Required to carry out work in
accordance with working at heights and permit to work system on various
functions in various conditions i.e. confined spaces, boiler houses, plant
rooms, stair wells etc.
Participate in an on call Rota.

The post
holder will be responsible for the execution of maintenance duties, trouble
shooting/repair and minor works on a wide range of plant equipment and premises
within the Trust or for other organisations as directed.
These
duties will essentially involve his/her specialism however training and
experience of other elements of craftsmen skills will enable the post holder to
reach levels of flexibility and competence over a wide range of traditional
building and engineering works.
To carry out
day to day maintenance of plumbing/mechanical equipment throughout Trust properties and other organisations as
directed.
To work
closely with ward managers and work alongside patients and have an
understanding of their needs whilst carrying out duties.
Establish
good working relationships with all points of contact with estate users,
ensuring they are kept informed about the progress of work as required.
To interpret
work from all instructions, drawings and specifications without supervision.
To diagnose
and repair faults in plumbing/mechanical equipment:
Heating pipe work and systems.
Domestic hot water systems and calorifiers.
Cold water tanks and systems.
Water softening plant and associated pipe work.
Laundry equipment.
Understand
fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts and to
participate in the multi-skilling arrangements in place.
To pass on
knowledge to other trades.
Driving
hospital vehicles and plant as required (not H.G.V.).
The post
holder may be expected to participate in the out of hours on call rota which
involves multi skilling across all trades, bringing them into contact with
sewage and other bodily fluids (for which protective equipment must be worn).
