Job summary

We are looking to appoint an experienced Management Accountant to join our Finance Team based in Wakefield.

This is a rewarding and challenging role requiring financial and budgetary expertise, underpinned by excellent communication and negotiation skills. This post will suit someone keen to progress, who is enthusiastic, self-motivated and has the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

The Management Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager delivering high quality, timely financial reporting and analysis to support decision making and financial control.

The successful applicant will be AAT qualified or equivalent and have management accounts experience that means that they will be confident with working on their own and liaising with budget holders to ensure an accurate financial position is reported whilst supporting managers to deliver and develop their service.

Main duties of the job

The Management Accountant is responsible for supporting the Senior Management

Accountant and BDU finance manager in delivering high quality and timely financial

management services to all budget holders within a Care Group. Corporate Services. Providing support to the Senior/Finance Manager and budget

managers in the development and delivery of the BDU/ Directorate Annual Plan.

Financial Governance

To provide advice and training to budget managers to ensure there is good understanding and compliance with Standing Financial Instructions, Standing Orders Financial Procedures and accounting policies

To provide analysis and information to senior finance staff for completion of information and returns for external bodies including Freedom of Information requests

To provide accurate financial information to the required timetables and detailed analysis to support the completion of statutory accounts under the direction of senior finance staff

Financial Strategy and Planning

To support the Senior/Finance Managers in the development and maintenance of the BDU/Support Services medium term financial plan through calculation of budgets and undertaking financial analysis as directed

Provide financial support and advice to support BDU/Support Services business planning for a portfolio of budgets holders

Plan and deliver detailed costing and analysis work to support BDU capital and revenue developments including business cases and delivery of Cost Improvement Plans under the direction of senior finance staff

Financial Reporting and Management Accounting

Produce the detailed workings for budget setting

Produce the monthly management reports for the BDU/Support Services including financial forecasting

Undertake analysis and investigation of service issues arising from monthly reporting for portfolio of budget holders, including consideration of financial risk.

Support the Senior finance managers in the production and analysis of service line reporting.

Provide professional financial support and advice for financial reporting to BDU/Support Services budget holders and other managers with the support of senior finance staff.

Produce written financial analysis to support the decision making process within the BDU/Support Services directorate under supervision of senior finance staff

The post holder will be expected to assess current work practices and procedures in relation to their own span of work and implement improvements where possible and contribute to development of efficient work processes which optimise the use of technology.

Provide training to other finance and BDU/Support Services staff as appropriate
