We are looking for a caring, confident and competent Therapy Assistant who will be responsible for providing therapeutic interventions and activity for individuals currently in receipt of inpatient care within the forensic service. In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated therapy team to support service users in their recovery journey. The team consists of OTs, physiotherapists and Technical Instructors. You will also work alongside a wider multidisciplinary team, including nursing staff, medics, psychologists and SLTs.

You will be supported to develop your clinical and professional competencies within a stimulating learning environment. The Trust is committed to staff health and wellbeing, and you will be encouraged to learn, develop and grow.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and compassionate individual who demonstrates excellent communication and interaction skills. The successful applicant will work alongside our therapists to deliver effective 1:1 and group interventions.

We provide therapy across 11 secure wards, supporting service users experiencing mental health difficulties or learning disabilities. We adopt a recovery based approach and ensure the delivery of high quality care.

In this role you will be supported to work within a forensic setting, with service users presenting with a wide range of conditions. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other professionals, and we have well established links with our local partners.

There are administrative tasks involved in the role such as record keeping, stock control and replenishment, and maintaining therapy areas and equipment.

Participate in the management and support of individuals who exhibit challenging behaviour or present a significant imminent risk to themselves or others. Recognise and respond to changes in their presentation, including reporting the issue to a registered health care practitioner/associate practitioner as required. Respond appropriately to any emergency situation.

Participate in supportive interventions minimising the negative effects of disruptive/abusive behaviour, or in the prevention and management of violence and aggression (RRPI). Utilise de-escalation and physical control techniques as necessary (dependent on the role). Taking reasonable steps to protect themselves from the risk of violence.
