Newhaven is a specialist Low Secure Male Learning Disability Service (16 beds)
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and
resourceful individual to come and join our Security Portering Team and help us
provide a highly responsive service to meet our patients and carers needs.

Main duties of the job
In this role you will be an
integral part of the Security Porter team and you will be required to provide
excellent customer service, security
awareness, contribute to service development and the maintenance of high
clinical standards. The
services will meet your development needs through comprehensive induction,
staff appraisal, regular management and clinical supervision
As a Security Porter, you will be confident, have excellent people
skills and be able to work in a high-pressure environment. Excellent customer service is a
priority as well as ensuring that our practice is safe and effective.
You will act as a source of
expertise, demonstrate your problem-solving skills, manage resources, act as a
point of contact for the inpatient areas and the wider service/external
agencies/wider community.
It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive
attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important.
The successful candidate
will be expected to work a 24-hour shift system to ensure a point of contact is
provided throughout the day, night and weekends.
At

JOB SUMMARY
The post holder
will contribute to a high quality reception and clerical service, which will
support the clinical team in the delivery of high quality service user
care. They will co-ordinate the
day-to-day reception area within the Forensic BDU, undertake all aspects of
work in the reception area in collaboration with other reception staff and the
unit manager or nurse in charge. They
will monitor all persons entering and leaving the unit, operate the telephone
system and ensure the provision and maintenance of accurate data and
administrative systems.

internal checks of non-patient areas and the monitoring and maintenance of a
range of security systems.
The post holder
will work with minimum supervision and be prepared to work flexibly to ensure
that the reception area is appropriately staffed.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
Administrative
1.
To provide a helpful and professional meeting
and greeting service for any person who presents at the reception area,
answering queries and providing escorts around the service.
2.
Responsible for maintaining a high standard of
quality care throughout the Unit and addressing any concerns not meeting these
standards proactively.
3.
To take and relay messages over the telephone
and in person from other professional/clerical staff, members of the public,
service users and carers and take timely and appropriate action.
4.
To maintain and administer routine security
systems. These include the recording of
all arrivals and departures of service users, visitors and staff, and
monitoring and responding to community support services.
5.
Record team whereabouts on a relevant database
and bring to the attention of the nurse in charge when a member of staff fails
to return to the Unit.
6.
To take responsibility for the issue and
checking of all security equipment and systems, including mobile phones, keys,
restraint and personal alarms.
7.
To carry out routine and specific security
checks including searching the Units grounds, external windows, lights, doors
and fire exits.
8.
To maintain a continual awareness of security
issues, taking action in response to emergency situations and informing
management of any breaches in security procedures.
9.
To provide clinical and security reports,
update manual and electronic data systems as required.
10.
To provide administrative support on a
rotational basis to wards, for example filing, photocopying and the maintenance
of administrative systems.
11.
To operate the reception computer, to develop
and update reception paperwork, book meeting rooms and plan service user visits
in line with Unit security policies.
12.
To arrange meetings and room bookings as
required and to maintain diaries as appropriate.
13.
To prepare letters, memoranda, reports, duty
rotas (typing) and other template correspondence, using available IT systems.
14.
To be responsible for the receipt, date
stamping and timely distribution of internal and external mail.
15.
To be responsible for the faxing of
confidential information to the appropriate people in a timely manner. To ensure that incoming faxes are logged and
distributed immediately on receipt to the appropriate person.
16.
Collect, collate and produce accurate
statistical information as required.
17.
Monitor close circuit TV system reporting
faults and discrepancies to nurse in charge.
18.
Induct new staff and visitors in the use of the
alarm activation system.
19.
Induct new starters into the operation of the
reception and associated system/policy.
20.
Refer new visitors to the Visiting Policy and
the banned items list.
21.
Keep accurate historical records (for audit
purposes etc) of visits, service user leave, keys and alarms issued.
