Job summary

37.5 Hours Per Week.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7/8a HCPC registered Psychologist to join our Inpatient Psychology Team on the Fieldhead Hospital site. You will be part of a supportive Psychology team committed to delivering high quality trauma informed services within our forensic low and medium secure mental health care group.

The post holder will work into the Bretton Centre, a low secure mental health service for men with 38 beds across 3 wards. This includes an acute/assessment ward, a rehabilitation, and a pre-discharge ward. The service offers a unique opportunity to hold a varied caseload with complex service users across different stages of their recovery. We have strong supervisory and professional networks, and a focus on personal and professional development, including offering further training in specialist forensic risk assessment and trauma focused therapeutic interventions. We constantly strive to improve as a wider inpatients psychology team and there are lots of opportunities for involvement in service development.

We are aware that an increasing number of applicants are using AI technology to generate responses on NHS Job application forms. We strongly discourage this and will conduct a thorough screening process before selecting candidates to progress to the next stage. If you are using AI to enhance your application, please disclose this in your NHS Jobs application form.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide assessment, formulation and therapeutic interventions for the inpatient group. This will be via one to one work, through indirect work with the wider MDT, and in providing consultation and training to colleagues within the service. The post-holder will receive regular clinical supervision from psychologists based within the forensic care group and if required will be supported to complete their own supervisor training. Experience of working with complex mental health needs and of working in secure settings would be desirable but enthusiasm for working with this client group is essential. Well attuned relational and engagement skills are essential as well as the ability to develop and communicate complex formulations. The post is suitable for an experienced specialist psychologist who is already working at a 8a banding and who wishes to develop their skills further in a forensic setting, or for a psychologist interested in a Band 7/8a preceptorship.

All employees of the Trust are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect patients.
