Fixed-Term - For a period of up to 4 months, due to limited funding

A new opportunity has been created for a full time Band 4 Assistant Psychologist in our Secure CAMHS team, to be based in Adel Beck Secure children's home Leeds. The post is funded for 4 months.

The funding for this post has been acquired through the NHS/HEE Mental Health Implementation Plan, with the aim of supporting the expansion and inclusion and diversity of psychological professions in the NHS workforce. We are therefore seeking applications from psychology graduates who are from minoritised ethnic communities, LGBT+ communities, those with a disability or caring responsibilities, or graduates who are socio-economically disadvantaged.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based Adel Beck Secure children's home Leeds.

The successful candidate will be supervised by a Principal Clinical Psychologist, they will assist in conducting psychological assessments for people admitted to the home, including summarising electronic records, meeting with young people, and gathering information from family members and carers.

You will contribute to psychological care plans and support the delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions and psychologically informed interventions by other clinical staff.

You will have opportunities to work with the home's multidisciplinary team including medical, social work, nursing, occupational therapy and residential workers.

We are looking for someone who is organised and proactive, with a keen interest in pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology.

Job responsibilities

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service, across all sectors of care; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist and within the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

Key Result Areas

Clinical:

  1. To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological theory, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.
  2. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a clients problems, under the supervision of a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist.
  3. To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups or clinical projects.
  4. To work with other staff to assess community patients and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
  5. To assist in the development of a psychological based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

  • An Honours degree in Psychology (2:1)
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
