The Calderdale and Kirklees In-Patient Occupational Therapy team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dedicated Band 6 practitioner to become part of our Kirklees team. The service is embracing positive change and developing pathways of care to meet the diverse needs of adults and older people within an acute inpatient setting.

We are looking for a skilled Band 6 OT to join our team and provide specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions for service users currently in receipt of in-patient mental health care. The post is a full time position (37.5 hrs).

The post holder will work mainly in older peoples care alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising consultant psychiatrists, senior clinical psychologists, nursing staff and physiotherapists.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an innovative, committed, and caring Occupational Therapist who can demonstrate sound clinical decision making and work both autonomously and as part of the MDT. Our therapy team prides itself on providing the highest standard of assessment, treatment, and client centred care in a safe and therapeutic environment. The team plays an important role in facilitating the safe and effective discharge of our service users and is a valued part of our in-patient services provision.

The therapy team across both sites consists of band 6, band 5 OTs and Occupational Therapy assistants. The service operates over 7 days with the OTAs covering weekends and Bank Holidays. Shifts are 8.304.30 and staff are expected to work one late shift a week. There is an expectation for all staff to cross ward and cross site work where necessary. We are a supportive therapy team and work closely with the wider MDT. We adopt a recovery-based approach using evidence-based interventions and professional models of working to inform our practice and ensure the delivery of high quality care. A range of 1:1 interventions and therapeutic groups are provided.

JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will be part of a cohesive and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team. KEY RESULT AREAS:

Clinical

1. To manage an individual caseload, providing Occupational Therapy assessments for service users receiving in-patient care and within the community, prioritising clinical needs and providing an effective service.

2. To work with service users to identify Occupational Therapy goals as part of the overall care plan, using occupational therapy assessment tools based on current evidence based best practice.

3. To plan and implement a client centred Occupational Therapy treatment programme on an individual and/or group basis, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

4. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.

5. To demonstrate a broad level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyles changes and adaptations to the clients social and physical environment.

6. To be responsible for providing Occupational Therapy advice in the multidisciplinary team assessment of service users and carers to ensure that an integrated approach to assessment and treatment is achieved and maintained.

7. To work proactively alongside ward staff, community agencies and voluntary agencies to provide a seamless service for service users.

8. To maintain an effective communication network within the team, and to liaise with other agencies and disciplines from the voluntary and statutory sectors to ensure that service user needs are met.

9. To maintain up to date service user records and activity data in accordance with professional and Trust standards.

10. To provide an Occupational Therapy perspective in multi-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, clinics and case conferences as required.

11. To provide Occupational Therapy reports (as prequired) on assessment and treatment by written and verbal reports to Consultants, GP's and other agencies involved, and to ensure that all correspondence relating to caseload is dealt with promptly.

12. To empower families and carers to support individuals with mental health problems.

13. To involve clients in all aspects of assessment, treatment and evaluation of treatment programmes.

14. To promote the positive health and well being of the individual.
