This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, hardworking and welcoming team in Kirklees Intensive Home Based Treatment Team. We are a group of specially trained people who work together in order to offer support to service users who experience complex mental health difficulties. The successful applicant would enjoy the challenge of working with a variety of service users with the support of colleagues from different professional backgrounds.

We work in the short term with service users as a multidisciplinary team depending on their level of need and risk and we liaise with internal and external services to work towards mental health stability and recovery.

KIHBT is open 365 days a year 24 hours a day however your role would primarily be within the hours of 9-5 unless identified that working out of hours would enhance the role ie to support someone to attend an out of hours 3rd sector facility.

There is also an opportunity to provide support and advice to carers to enhance the care of the team.

Visa sponsorship under the Health and Care Worker visa route can only be considered if the prorated salary meets the minimum threshold of £25,000, as required by the UK Visas and Immigration. For Band 3 roles, only full-time positions at the top of the pay scale meet this threshold. Therefore, sponsorship may not be possible depending on salary increment placement and working hours.

Main duties of the job

Through sharing the wisdom from their own lived experience, the post holder will aim to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. To be willing and able to share ones own personal recovery within project work, and to support others with experience/service user led projects and development, bringing the voice of experience in to the planning, design and delivery of projects and developments. This will include a key role in supporting and developing mechanisms for working in partnership with, community organisations and groups.

The PSW will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the Trust, alongside other Trust champions and colleagues, and act as an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations. Within a relationship of mutuality, facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.

There is an expectation that the PSW will be involved in the ongoing development of peer roles within the Trust.

The role of the Peer Support Worker is to deliver specific components of prescribed care packages under the direct supervision of Care Coordinators and Clinical Leads. The post holder will provide formalised support and assistance to service users in order for them to take control over their own lives and engage actively in their unique recovery process.

The post holder will be part of a clinical team and will work into the inpatient units and also within the community with service users that are within a mental health and require support. The post requires effective liaison with service users, carers, and other professionals and agencies as required. It will involve the provision of direct psychological based care, offering therapeutic time to a defined client group or on a case-by-case basis working at all times within the principles of recovery.

You will be supporting individuals with complex social and mental health histories; we will therefore provide a framework of supervision and trust wellbeing initiatives to enable you to support your own wellbeing and manage the boundaries of the role.

The service provision is from Monday to Sunday between the hours of 8am and 8pm with flexibility depending on and responding to the needs of the service users.
