am a Team Manager in the NHS Kirklees Talking Therapies Service.
We are excited to welcome
applications for Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapists to work in the Kirklees
area.
Initial interviews will take place on either 08/12/25, with a second interview with
the University of Sheffield early January.
NHS Kirklees Talking Therapies service
provides psychological therapies for people experiencing depression and anxiety
in a primary care setting. The service has an excellent record of training high
quality Cognitive Behavioural Therapists in partnership with the University of
Sheffield. We are keen to hear from suitably experienced, enthusiastic, and
motivated individuals who are focused on providing patient centred care of the
highest quality.
The successful candidate will
work within a busy Talking Therapies team providing time limited, evidence-based
therapy in accordance with NICE guidance. The provision of Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy is one of a range of therapeutic approaches offered within
a stepped care model. We have a large and vibrant team from a variety of
therapeutic modalities.

Main duties of the job
The training post will commence
on a Band 6 pay scale and on successful completion of this certificate in a 12-month
period, you will continue your employment in our service as a qualified
Cognitive Behavioural Therapist on a band 7 pay scale. Failure to successfully
complete the training will impact on the continuation of your employment with
the Trust. You will be required to begin the Postgraduate Diploma from March
2026.
This is an exciting training
opportunity to be part of a major national initiative which is fundamentally
changing the way in which psychological therapies are provided in the NHS in
England.
Team Background
Our team provide NICE compliant
psychotherapy incorporating CBT, Counselling and Guided Self Help to clients in
primary care across Kirklees. This is an 8-8 service Monday to Friday, and we
offer sessions either by Microsoft Teams, telephone or face to face.
We hold clinics both in Trust
premises as well as in primary care settings across the area to ensure that we
are, as much as possible, nearby for the people that use the service.
We treat clients with common
mental health problems such as depression or anxiety and consistently achieve
our recovery target of 50%, for us this is important because it means we are
making a difference to peoples lives.

The post holder will undertake a Post
Graduate Diploma in CBT on a recognised university course. On successful
completion of the course the post holder will progress to a Band 7 post, as a
qualified High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. This post is
dependent on successfully completing the university course.
The post holder will provide High
Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions, with a reduced
caseload, within an Improved Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service,
under the supervision of a BABCP Accredited CBT clinician. The post holder will provide a high quality
clinical service to the users of the service.
Clinical oversight of all work will be
held by the clinical supervisor within the workplace and in the university, and
managerial responsibility is to lead in the service/team manager.
The job plan will be delivered in the
services the post is based.
The post holder will work autonomously
within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team while
observing Trust and National policies and procedures.

1.1Care/service/function
provision:
To
provide High Intensity CBT intervention for people experiencing mild to
moderate common mental health problems, under the supervision of a BABCP
Accredited CBT clinician. To exercise clinical judgment based on the highest
standards of evidence based practice. To deliver excellent levels of customer
care to people, and address or report, in a timely and proactive manner, where
these standards have not been met. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive
manner information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans
of clients under their care and effectively evaluate progress.
1.2 Working as part of a Team:
To work
as part of a team to deliver person centred care whilst meeting
the service standards and objectives. To provide risk assessment and
intervention to people who present for treatment. To liaise and consult with
the wider professional network in the care of the client. To work jointly with
other team members in delivering the most appropriate clinical service to
people and their families. To contribute to the audit processes within the
service. To contribute to research in the service area. To undertake project
management as required to aid service development.
1.3 Managing
Self:
To continually seek to expand and consolidate clinical skills using training
experience and supervision and apply continuous reflection on own practice.
To utilise theory, evidence based literature and research
to support evidence base practice of self and others. To exercise autonomous
professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of
clients, under the supervision of a BABCP accredited CBT clinician.
To contribute to the development and maintenance of the
highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in
internal and external CPD training and development programmes in consultation
with the post holders professional lead and service manager(s). To maintain
membership of appropriate bodies (i.e. NMC, BABCP, UKCP) and professional
bodies appropriate for the model of working.
To contribute to the development and articulation of best
practice in psychotherapy across the service, by continuing to develop the
skills of reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular
professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement
with current developments in the field of psychotherapy and related
disciplines.
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record
keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the
responsible exercise of professional self- governance in accordance with
professional codes of practice and Trust policies and procedures.
Th post- holder will be required to work flexibly both in
terms of base and in hours of clinical availability.

Management Supervision and Support: The post holder has no managerial
supervision responsibility but is expected to be a good example to other staff.
