Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health Occupational Therapist (Band
5) 37.5 hrs
We
are looking to recruit a band 5 community occupational therapist to join our
team. We are a specialist community perinatal team working with women
experiencing severe mental health issues in the perinatal period. The team is
made up of OTs, mental health practitioners, psychologists/psycotherapists,
parent infant psychotherapists, nursery nurses, peer support workers and
psychiatrists.
We
are looking for a qualified Occupational Therapist with an interest in
perinatal to join our occupational therapy team. You will work with women and
their families in their own homes, and the community providing 1:1 intervention
to promote occupation and functioning. The team have a range of therapeutic
groups and you will also be involved in facilitating the running of these
groups. Experience with perinatal care will be an advantage but is not
essential and we welcome occupational therapists who want to begin working in
this specialty. You will receive supervision from our senior occupational
therapist, and unique training opportunities in order to develop your
professional identity in this field.

Main duties of the job
The
service works closely with Maternity Services, Community Mental Health Teams, CAMHS,
Home Treatment Teams, Primary Care Services and other community organisations,
and the Yorkshire and Humber Mother-and-Baby-Unit.
We
pride ourselves on offering flexible working patterns when this is needed, for
example in order to facilitate caring responsibilities. The service operates
Monday-Friday; 9.00am-5.00pm however successful applicants would be expected to
have the flexibility to work occasional extended hours to facilitate service
effectiveness.
The post advertised is to cover Kirklees and
Calderdale. The post is agile and although there is plenty
of trust buildings to work from, the team are also working from home regularly.
Being a car driver is essential due to the distance
required to travel when completing home-visits.

Job responsibilities
The
post holder will be required to work as an integral part of the
multi-disciplinary team, providing occupational therapy assessment and
treatment for service users in receipt of care from community services. Enabling service users to engage in a range
of community based treatment activities.
You will be actively involved in the promotion of occupational therapy
within the service area. The post holder
will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and the
client group.
To provide occupational therapy assessments for
people accessing the service, prioritising on the nature, complexity and
urgency of each individual case.
To plan and implement an occupational therapy
treatment programme on an individual and/or group basis, using graded activity
to achieve therapeutic goals.
To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in
order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
To act as care coordinator for a designated
caseload with support and supervision from a senior practitioner in line with
CPA procedures and risk management protocol.

To adopt a client centred and sensitive

the local community as fully as possible, using practical and creative problem
solving approaches to gain the active participation of services users.
To provide occupational therapy reports on
assessment and treatment by written and verbal reports to Consultants, GPs and
other agencies involved, and to ensure that all correspondence relating to
caseload is dealt with promptly.
To provide occupational therapy perspective in
multi-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, clinics and case conferences as
required.
To work to the standards and comply with
professional ethics for occupational therapy practitioners as laid down by the College of Occupational Therapists (COT 2010),
relevant DoH and other local and national standards.
To ensure that up to date records and activity
data are maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards and
policies.
