We have a permanent, Band 7/8a development post for a Clinical Psychologist, 4 days week (0.8 WTE), in the Calderdale Learning Disability Community Health Team. The team is based in the picturesque town of Hebden Bridge with good rail links and free staff car parking.

Our MDT provides specialist assessments and interventions to adults with a learning disability from the Calderdale locality who present with physical, behavioural and mental health needs. We work closely with clients, carers and families, services and agencies to promote person-focused, trauma-informed and effective ways of working across systems. The team has high staff retention and excellent working relationships both within the team and with our partners.

Psychology is valued within the Trust and there is strong professional leadership at senior levels. There are four Learning Disability Community Health Teams, each well-resourced for and co-led by Psychology. Consultant and Principal psychology posts in each locality help to ensure psychologically informed teams and ways of working, together with the provision of professional leadership and high-quality supervision.

Please contact Dr Lisa Benn, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, to discuss further.

For full job description, please see attached supporting documents.

All employees of the Trust are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and work to offer high quality assessments and interventions in a compassionate and values-led way. Work will include providing learning disability assessment, autism assessment, dementia assessment, psychological formulation, consultation, indirect intervention with families/carers/staff teams, as well as individual therapy for clients with a learning disability.

You will support individuals who present with vulnerabilities or behaviours which are considered concerning; working with systems to promote increased quality of life, appropriate risk management and effective Positive Behavioural Support approaches. You will model and share psychologically informed ways of thinking and working, support healthy relationships with boundary management and work towards avoiding placement breakdown and inpatient admission in systems, where possible.

You will be part of a team that really values psychology, offering formulation and reflective spaces to staff to help support the delivery of sustainable, quality clinical work across the team.

We work closed with the University of Leeds and you will help supervise trainees, supporting and encouraging future Practitioner Psychologists to work in the field of learning disability.

There will be lots of opportunity to input into the continuous improvement of our clinical services and pathways and to become involved in clinically meaningful research.
