Job summary

37.5 Hours Per Week

We are looking for an enthusiastic Mental Health Practitioner to join our friendly and innovative multi agency Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team.

The team offers evidence based diagnostic assessments in line with NICE guidance to children and young people under 18 where there are concerns regarding Autism or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

This post would suit those with an interest in neurodiversity, who love using their assessment and observation skills to formulate complex presentations and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The post also provides opportunities to develop skills in supervision, teaching and training and to be part of service development. The service offers a wide range of development opportunities and is committed to the career development of its staff.

All relevant training will be offered as necessary (e.g. ADOS training) and further CPD opportunities are encouraged. Clinical supervision will be provided by one of the Senior clinicians.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in all aspects of the assessment process and will be a fully integrated member of our friendly and welcoming multidisciplinary team, working alongside our Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Mental Health Practitioners, Psychiatrist, Assistant Psychologists and Support Worker.

The role includes; using high level assessment and formulation skills , using observation and activity based interactions in clinic and also at times in school, Using formal testing measures such as ADOS and QB test to better understand a childs presentation, writing diagnostic assessment reports, supervision of healthcare support workers, contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings, involvement in the development of post diagnostic workshops and groups and being involved in service development.

Work autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, providing consultation for other agencies/professionals;

Promote the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.

To provide specialist diagnostic assessment as part of a multidisciplinary team to young people who are referred to Kirklees CAMHS neurodevelopmental assessment team, in keeping with evidence based practice with supervision from a senior clinician within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures.

To support the ongoing process of delivering a Neurodevelopmental assessment service.

To provide specialist diagnostic assessment of Autism and ADHD to children, young people as both an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team to address need.

To apply a sound knowledge of safeguarding children and guidelines in clinical work.

To be committed to a quality approach for patient care.

The post-holder will demonstrate high levels of concentration and provide sustained effort in assessment of complex family issues.

To manage own caseload, accessing support and guidance appropriate to individual need.

To operate within the clinical and case management supervision framework.

To provide training, consultation and supervision to other service providers, partner agencies and junior members of staff as required regarding intensive interventions with children, young people and families.

To participate in the development, audit and review of this extension to existing service provision.

To undertake extended hours of work alongside fellow specialist CAMHS practitioners.

To work collaboratively with all services to provide coherent and co-ordinated mental health services for children and young people as well as other significant partners, ensuring timely transition and relevant consultation, training and support to universal services and targeted groups.

To use a range of Information Technology systems (including Rio) ensuring high quality data is collected appropriately, kept securely and confidentially.
