Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to work within the Kirklees Admiral Nurse team based at Folly Hall in Huddersfield. Kirklees Adult and older people care group are looking to recruit a full-time Occupational Therapist on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave, for a period of 9 months. This role covers both North and South Kirklees and encompasses Admiral Nurses, Memory Service and the Early Onset Dementia Team. Kirklees Memory Service has recently been re-accredited by MSNAP which is endorsed by the Care Quality Commission.

The service places staff clinical and management supervision, appraisal, support and professional development as a high priority. You would be working with a well-established multidisciplinary team that supports staff to develop both personally and professionally. We have a mix of mental health nurses, advanced nurse practitioners and social care professionals, with access to dietetics and psychology.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within the remit of the Band 6 job description which involves providing support and education to carers who are supporting people living with dementia, assessing risk and delivering interventions. There is an expectation to carry out specific occupational therapy assessments and deliver interventions to service users in their own homes, establishing level of function following diagnosis, or to support a dementia diagnosis and facilitate occupational performance. There will also be the requirement to undertake initial assessments of service users referred into the Memory Service and partake in clinical decision making in line with leadership and work collaboratively with partner organisations. You will need to be able to work autonomously as well as with the teams and be able to assess and manage risks for people living with dementia and their carers.
