My Name is Deborah Blakeston I
am a team manager in the Kirklees and Calderdale IAPT Service, here in
Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Halifax
I am excited to welcome
applications for several new full time team members as a Counsellor to work across
Kirklees and Calderdale within the IAPT Team.
This is an ideal opportunity
for a qualified Counsellor with 2 years post qualification experience looking
to broaden their experience working in a primary care setting
As an applicant you must be have
completed an advanced diploma in counselling and have experience of working in
mental health services.
You will need to demonstrate an
understanding of anxiety and depression and how these can present in primary
care. You will have the opportunity to enhance your existing skills by
attending the PCE-CFD training.
This is an autonomous role and
its essential that you possess advanced communication skills and an
understanding of clinical risk.
It would also be desirable if
youve got experience working in a primary care setting as well as having
previously worked in a target driven service.
The role will consist of
offering face to face sessions within our Kirklees and Calderdale clinics along
with video and telephone sessions
Main duties of the job
My team provide NICE compliant
psychotherapy incorporating Counselling, CBT and Guided Self Help to clients in
primary care across Kirklees. This is an 8-8 service Monday to Friday, and we
offer sessions either by Microsoft Teams, telephone or face to face.
We hold clinics both in Trust
premises and also in primary care settings across the area to ensure that
were, as much as possible, nearby for the people that use the service.
We treat clients with common
mental health problems such as depression or anxiety disorders like
Generalised Anxiety Disorder, OCD, PTSD, social phobia or body dysmorphic
disorder.
We consistently achieve our
recovery target of 50%, for me thats important because it means were making a
difference to peoples lives.

In accordance with NICE guidance, the provision of counselling for
depression is one of a range of therapeutic interventions within a stepped care
pathway which helps to ensure increased service user choice and access to
services.
All IAPT practitioners, including counsellors, are required to deliver
high quality services through the use of routine outcome measures, evidence
based treatment and electronic record and data management systems and
participation in clinical and management supervision. Support is given to continuous professional
development to ensure that counsellors skills and knowledge remain up-to-date.
The counselling service is aimed at people aged 18 and above,
experiencing mild to moderate low mood for one or more of the following
reasons:
Marital,
family/relationship disharmony, including separation and divorce
Reactive depression,
including loss and bereavement
Self-image/esteem and
identity problems
Developmental life crises
(e.g. job related stress, unemployment, redundancy, role changes, parenting,
infertility, ageing)
Material or practical
stressors (e.g. housing, financial)
Coping with injury or
illness
Appropriate
emotional/physical/sexual abuse issues
The post holder will be responsible for
providing time-limited counselling in designated localities to those service
users who meet the service referral criteria.
The duration of counselling interventions will be in accordance with the
service contract and evidence-based practice.
