Job summary
My name is Sue Walker. I am a
Team Manager for the Kirklees/Calderdale IAPT Service. I welcome applications
for Trainee PWPs to work within this team. This is an opportunity for candidates
interested in working with common mental health problems. You will attend
university for one day a week and complete clinical work for the remainder. You
will do assignments in your own time to meet the expectations of a post
graduate course. You will start on Band 4 pay scale and on successful
completion within 12 months, you will continue your employment as a qualified
PWP on band 5. You will be required to begin the PG Cert from October 2022.
University training is on
site. You will be expected to travel to Sheffield on these days. You will have
regular face to face working days based in Kirklees or Calderdale and other
days will be remote working. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of
anxiety and depression and how these can present in primary care. Trainees
receive clinical supervision and case management supervision in accordance with
the national recommendations. Interviews will be the 9th of July.

Main duties of the job
You’ll take up a
training place and successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Low
Intensity Therapies (IAPT). This is a development post and on successfully
completing the course, you will transfer to a permanent Band 5 PWP post.
Extension to your contract is conditional upon you successfully achieving the
IAPT Qualification. Should you be
excluded from the IAPT course or fail in part or all of the required module(s),
allowing for one re-sit only, you will be served with the appropriate statutory
notice to terminate your employment with the Trust.
You’ll
learn low intensity interventions for individuals with mild to moderate common
mental health problems as part of the stepped care model of mental health.
These are evidence-based treatments for depression and anxiety disorders based
on NICE guidelines. You will carry out assessments to determine the suitability
of IAPT to service user needs, including risk/safeguarding assessments.
Sessions will be face to face, remotely (phone/Teams), one to one, in psychoeducational
groups or using CCBT. You’ll effectively use case management and clinical
supervision in line with national guidance to determine outcomes of either take
into IAPT for talking therapies, refer to secondary MH services or signpost to
external service.

To support clinical audits and research projects providing data collection, entry and analysis as requested by the service.
To support links between primary health care and specialist mental health services, appreciating the limits of skills and responsibilities appropriate to primary care and facilitating timely access to specialist services as required.
To deliver brief interventions and treatments taking into account risk issues on a group or individual basis as appropriate under the supervision of a qualified mental health practitioner.
To proactively participate in professional development opportunities, training and supervision. Initially this will involve attainment of the Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Care Mental Health.
To conduct oneself in a manner that will ensure that services are provided on an equitable basis and be sensitive to individual circumstances and beliefs.
