Senior Stop Smoking Advisor

Yorkshire Smokefree Doncaster have an exciting opportunity for 37.5-hour band 4 Senior Stop Smoking Advisor up to 31/03/26.This post is funded through the government grant (Stopping the Start), additional funding given to local authorities to support current smokers to quit smoking.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our team. If you have good people skills the ability to support and motivate others and work well in a team setting, we would like to hear from you.

Although it is desirable to have an accredited Stop Smoking Intermediate Level 2 qualification or the equivalent NCSCT level 2 qualification, full training in smoking cessation and behaviour change techniques will be provided.

At the time of advertising, this role does not meet the minimum requirements (salary threshold or occupational requirements) set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK. For this reason, unfortunately we are unable to sponsor anyone on a visa for this role at this moment in time.

We are happy to accept applications from candidates who can prove their right to work in the UK or via alternative visa routes. Such applications will be considered alongside all other applications.

Main duties of the job

This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with people in communities and offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals. The post holder will provide smoking cessation advice and support to individuals and groups of people who want to stop smoking.

Providing support to stop smoking is crucial in addressing health inequalities and you will play an important role in tackling these. With an understanding of the wider determinants of health, you will empower people to make positive changes to their health and wellbeing.

You are encouraged to contribute to how the service improves and develops keeping things fresh and interesting.

This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with people in communities and offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals. The post holder will provide smoking cessation advice and support to individuals and groups of people who want to stop smoking.

Specifically the post holder will:

Seek out opportunities to develop and implement stop smoking services in a range of health and community settings.

Promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service through offering healthy lifestyle advice and support.

The postholder will:

Care/service/function provision: eg,** To deliver excellent levels of customer service to people, and address or report, in a timely and proactive manner, where these standards have not been met*.

To plan and deliver smoking cessation advice and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications, working within recommended protocols and guidelines. This will involve individual, telephonic, on-line and group work sessions in a variety of settings and venues, working closely with the central Yorkshire Smokefree telephonic Hub staff as required.

Develop individually tailored support plans including recommending treatments based on assessed needs.

Provide information to people about stopping smoking and health-related issues in line with best guidance and protocols.

Provide general health and lifestyle advice and support to people using the service e.g. healthy eating, physical activity, stress management. This will include individual and group based interventions, signposting and referring to other health, community and voluntary services.

Responsible for the delivery of stop smoking support to specific client groups (e.g pregnant women, routine and manual workers)

Deliver very brief, brief and awareness training in stopping smoking as required.

To be involved in practice awareness raising sessions in Primary Care, Secondary Care and Community settings.

To be involved in the role out of Quit Manager training for internal staff and advisors within Primary Care, Secondary Care and Community settings.

To be involved in monitoring and evaluation of attendance at smokefree support sessions and contribute to the completion of the minimum data set requirement. This will include following up quitters who do not attend for planned support.

To be involved in the marketing and promotion of the service alongside other colleagues. This may involve attending events on evenings/weekends.

Undertake specific project and/or development activities in conjunction with the Service Manager and Specialist Advisors.

Maintain accurate client electronic records, using Quit Manager, in line with Trust guidelines.

Respond effectively to referrals within stated timescales self-referrals from the individuals, and those from colleagues /other workers/GPs.

Ensure administrative duties are carried out efficiently and effectively in order to meet the needs of the service.

  • GCSE level English and Mathematics or equivalent.
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in health related studies OR substantial.
