Job summary
The therapy team works across our working age adult and older people mental health wards in Barnsley, the team is made up of Occupational Therapists (OTS) and Occupational therapy assistants (OTAs), covering four wards: one male, one female, one mixed PICU, all working age adults and a mixed older peoples mental health ward. You will work closely with other members of the wider MDT, including nurses, psychologists, physios, dietitian, speech and language therapists and medical staff.
You will be working alongside service users with diverse and complex needs, and a variety of mental health presentations. Whilst you will predominantly work with service users experiencing mental health, there will always be exposure to some physical health presentations in addition to their mental health, so you will have opportunity to develop and maintain skills in this area.
The service is fast paced, and you will be responsible for assisting the OTs in completing screenings and assessments to identify needs, and then assist in 1:1/group interventions to support the OT in delivering these needs.
The organisation has a strong AHP structure and supports individuals with their learning and development. You will receive regular supervision and peer support, alongside your appraisal.
Our usual Working hours are Monday to Friday 8-4 or 9-5, however we are open to discussing any flexible working requests.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for assisting the OTs in completing assessments that will help facilitate safe, timely and effective discharge. You will assist in engaging the service users in initial assessments, functional assessments (such as shopping, cooking, budgeting, road safety etc), and you will use observational skills for these, feeding this information back to the OT.
You will be supported to develop your skills and there is opportunity for further training.
You will have excellent communication skills to work with the service users, team members and the wider MDT building and maintaining professional and therapeutic relationships. You will have clear and concise documentation skills.
You will have good organisation skills, be flexible in your approach to work as part of a team and wider MDT.
