Barnsley NHS Talking Therapies Team
aims to improve access to psychological therapy and treatment for people with
mild to moderate mental health problems, in Barnsley, to ensure people with
common mental health conditions are offered evidence-based treatments.
The
service opening hours are Monday-Thursday 9-8 and Friday 9-5. The service
offers a range of therapies at step 2 and step 3, delivered by various means
including face to face, virtual, telephone and computerised. We offer groups,
workshops and one to one appointments to clients.
This is an ideal opportunity for an
experienced professional to train to be become a High Intensity (CBT) Therapist
working with clients who present with mild to moderate common mental health
problems such as depression and the spectrum of anxiety presentations.
Successful applicants should have a core
profession, or able to demonstrate equivalent via KSA.It would also be
desirable if you have had training and experience in delivering supervision and
have experience working in a primary care setting.
You will need to demonstrate an
understanding of anxiety and depression and how these can present in primary
care.It is essential that you possess advanced communication skills
and a good understanding of clinical risk.

Main duties of the job
As a trainee member of the CBT team, you
will receive regular supervision at university and in practice, giving the
opportunity to develop and practice skills in a safe environment, and then
implement these skills in live practice.
You will have responsibility for a
reduced caseload where you will assess and treat clients presenting with mild
to moderate common mental health problems.
The first 2 weeks of the course will be entirely in university,
followed by 2 days at university and 3 days in practice each week.

The post holder will undertake a Post
Graduate Diploma in CBT on a recognised university course.
On successful
completion of the course the post holder will progress to a Band 7 post, as a
qualified High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. This post is
dependent on successfully completing the university course.
The post holder will provide High
Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions, with a reduced
caseload, within an Improved Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service,
under the supervision of a BABCP Accredited CBT clinician. The post holder will provide a high quality
clinical service to the users of the service.
Clinical oversight of all work will be
held by the clinical supervisor within the workplace and in the university, and
managerial responsibility is to lead in the service/team manager.
The job plan will be delivered in the
services the post is based.
The post holder will work autonomously
within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team while
observing Trust and National policies and procedures.
To
provide High Intensity CBT intervention for people experiencing mild to
moderate common mental health problems, under the supervision of a BABCP
Accredited CBT clinician.
To exercise clinical judgment based on the highest
standards of evidence based practice.To deliver excellent levels of customer
care to people, and address or report, in a timely and proactive manner, where
these standards have not been met.
To communicate in a skilled and sensitive
manner information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans
of clients under their care and effectively evaluate progress.
To work
as part of a team to deliver person centred care whilst meeting
the service standards and objectives. To provide risk assessment and
intervention to people who present for treatment.
To liaise and consult with
the wider professional network in the care of the client. To work jointly with
other team members in delivering the most appropriate clinical service to
people and their families.
To contribute to the audit processes within the
service. To contribute to research in the service area.To undertake project
management as required to aid service development.
To continually seek to expand and consolidate clinical skills using training
experience and supervision and apply continuous reflection on own practice.

To contribute to the development and articulation of best
practice in psychotherapy across the service, by continuing to develop the
skills of reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular
professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement
with current developments in the field of psychotherapy and related
disciplines.
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record
keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the
responsible exercise of professional self- governance in accordance with
professional codes of practice and Trust policies and procedures.
