JOB SUMMARY
Through sharing the wisdom from their own lived experience, the post holder will aim to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. To be willing and able to share ones own personal recovery within project work, and to support others with experience/service user led projects and development, bringing the voice of experience in to the planning, design and delivery of projects and developments. This will include a key role in supporting and developing mechanisms for working in partnership with, community organisations/groups
The PPSW will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the Trust, alongside other Trust champions and colleagues, and act as an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations. Within a relationship of mutuality, facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.
There is an expectation that the PPSW will be involved in the ongoing development of peer roles within the Trust.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
The post holder will:
1.1 Care/service/function provision:
a. Work within and support the structures associated with the service
b. To support people to develop service user led projects and initiatives including practical support organisation of meetings, forming a constitution and setting up a bank account etc.
- Be responsible for supporting several identified work streams
- To develop and deliver project information including training materials, communication materials and promotional information as required
- Ensure that projects developed provide a high level of service to Trust members and the public and is responsive to the needs of users, carers and staff
f. Help individuals and groups identify their own achievable and meaningful goals and objectives, drawing on your mutual resources as peers and utilising a range of tools, techniques and experience.
g. Support service users to identify and overcome fears and within a relationship of empathy, trust and honesty, move forward positively.
h. Facilitate access to community resources and networks that enable service users to develop community activities, in order to maximise opportunities for taking on socially valued roles and positive identity.
- Work in a way that acknowledges the personal, social, cultural and spiritual strengths and needs of any individual or group.
1.2 Working as part of a Team:
a. Act as a positive role model showing professional and caring attitudes and behaviour towards other team members, staff, service users and carers and public
b. Attend team meeting including team brief and provide a support service to the team members including administrative support as required.
c. To support the production, completion, recording and filing of project documentation as required by the team
d. Work with the statutory and community sector including, local authority, other NHS organisatons, voluntary organisations, community groups and third sector organisations to develop capacity to deliver peer led projects.
e. Support the development of exhibitions and live events to show case the talents of people who participate in projects.
f. To provide qualitative and quantitative information management support as required including:
- Data collection & collation
- Data management (e.g. setting up spreadsheets or files, data entry)
- Supporting data analyses and summary reports
1.3 Managing Self:
a) Associated personal administration work to enable duties to be carried out
b) Travel between sites/locations to carry out duties, attend meetings at other SWYMHT sites and other premises.
c) To undertake Continuous Personal Development and to participate in training
d) Model personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy and hopefulness via the sharing of own recovery story to inspire and instil confidence and challenge in others
e) Have a focus on the learning from personal lived experience at all times, and to bring this perspective in to all aspects of the project support role
f) Establish supportive and respectful relationships
g) Use own initiative, personal experience and job related training in deciding on the approach and interventions required when working within a project or area of development
h) To raise awareness of recovery language with Trust staff by modelling positive strengths based, non-discriminatory, non-jargon, non-medicalised language in all areas of work.
1.4 Management Supervision and Support:
a) To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade that may be delegated by manager.
b) Occasional flexible working outside normal office hours.
c) To report through management structures appropriate to the relevant department
1.5 Financial Responsibility:
a) Facilitate expenses payments to service users/carers, would be required to handle cash, keeping accurate records and book-keeping procedures.

1.7. Safeguarding:
Report any concerns regarding the safety or wellbeing of children, adults service users, members of their families etc, in accordance with Trust Policy.
Prevent and respond appropriately to abuse and understand own role in this by undertaking Safeguarding training.
1.8 Trust policies and commitments to be read in line with the relevant Trust Policy:
All staff employed by the Trust must comply with the Trusts policies and procedures, undertake appropriate training required for their role and commit to:
ensure they are aware of the Whistleblowing Policy and how they raise concerns;
maintain confidentiality, in line with the Trusts Confidentiality Policy and Code of Conduct;
understand their personal responsibilities with regards to data quality for any information which they create, use or process in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Trust Data Protection Policy;
comply with the provisions of The Trusts Health and Safety Policy and Protocol. Ensuring their own safety and that of colleagues, service users and visitors. Know the action to be taken in the event of a fire and must undertake fire training annually;
receive supervision in line with the Trusts Supervision Policy and an annual Appraisal in line with the Trusts Appraisal Policy, during which mandatory, role specific and personal development needs should be identified and agreed;
understand their responsibilities under the Trusts Equal Opportunities in Employment Policy and ensure that they adhere to the provisions of the policy;
recognise, respect and support the equality diversity of staff, colleagues, service users, carers and the public. Contribute to a working environment which promotes and responds positively to difference and diversity;
ensure they carry out their duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people under the age of 18 years, as issued under Section 11 of The Children Act 2004, by being familiar with and adhering to Trust safeguarding policies and participatingin relevanttraining;
comply with their professional responsibilities to develop their practice and deliver care through a Clinical Governance framework (i.e. CPD, Audit, Supervision);
demonstrate, through practice and practical understanding, the importance of the continual development of individual, team and service wide quality improvement;
abide by relevant codes of professional practice, with the organisation taking action when codes of conduct are breached;
work flexibly to meet the needs of the service/organisation, whilst working within a culture of progressive employment practices and commitment to the Investors in People (IiP) Standards.

being socially responsible by complying with measures that support the Trust in reducing or offsetting our environmental impact;

In addition to the Trusts own responsibilities under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance, for your safety, ALL staff (and contractors) are responsible for ensuring their work adheres to this Code in the delivery of safe patient care.
