Main duties of the job

The Recovery Coach will be responsible for creating engaging and informative course content that aligns with the values of the College. They will draw from a range of sources, including research, and the lived and learnt experience of others, to compile courses that meet the diverse needs of our learners, using various techniques to keep learners motivated and interested in the course content.

In their role as a facilitator, the Recovery Coach should demonstrate compassion, empathy, and appropriate boundaries, to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment and to help people achieve their potential.

To promote an engaging learning experience, the Recovery Coach will employ creativity and innovation in their facilitation methods applying differentiation techniques to accommodate individual differences within groups. Strong evaluation skills to assess the effectiveness of course content and make improvements are necessary.

Displaying leadership qualities and supervising others are skills that are required to ensure the effective delivery of courses.

They will also engage in reflective practice to continuously enhance their learning and development. Building successful relationships with a range of stakeholders, such as mental health services and community organisations, will be essential to promote the college's mission.

JOB SUMMARY

To undertake a Coaching role that supports people in their recovery including researching, producing, facilitating and reviewing educational courses and workshops that enable people to live life well and with opportunities to move into further education or employment. To supervise peer support workers within the recovery college.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

To facilitate educational courses and workshops around all aspects of living life beyond illness with a particular focus on health & wellbeing. This may be in conjunction with people who have lived experiences to help people realise their full potential through learning.

To work with learners in a recovery orientated way at all times.

To supervise peer support workers and ensure these posts enhance a persons learning experience

To continually be aware and incorporate best practice based on contemporary and relevant research findings and outcome measures.

1.1 Care/service/function provision:

To conduct face to face assessments with learners as part of the enrolment process to ensure the most appropriate course(s) is chosen to help them achieve self-responsibility and self-determination.

To work in collaboration with learners to ensure a structured programme is in place for each student including their progress beyond their involvement in the college. This may include planning future goals, utilising such skills as Motivational Interviewing and personal development skills

To support learners into one or more of a range of opportunities, depending on individual need, e.g. work experience, voluntary work and paid work, education and accredited courses.

To work collaboratively with learners in developing appropriate life long learning techniques and other strategies with a focus towards further education or employment.

Be able to recognise the psychological barriers people may face when accessing education, taking into account a persons resilience and current health status and adopting appropriate coping strategies.

Working with learners and enabling them to reach their potential in preparation for further education or employment. This may include supporting someone through a volunteering process, linking in with other educational facilities and/or recognising barriers to progression and working on these on a one to one basis.

To develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships and networks for learner referral and signposting

To promote the service by attending meetings with, and by delivering talks and presentations to relevant interested parties, for example service users, our partners, carers, colleagues, employers or their representative bodies.

1.2 Working as part of a team

To contribute to the development of best practice within the service. This will be evidenced through all work submitted to the Editorial Panel, ensuring it is to a standard that is well researched, up-to-date and relevant to learner needs.

To be involved in the promotion of the recovery college effectively and actively promote a positive image of the Recovery College across Barnsley and SWYFT

To work with the Recovery College Principal and Head of Departments to deliver a high quality customer-focused service, in line with agreed strategic objectives.

To take an active role in service reviews and evaluations and liaise with the colleagues, learners, and others when audits are required. This would include collecting and submitting data to submit into Social and Financial Return on Investment reports.

1.3 Managing self

Particiapate in supervision to develop skills and knowledge and apply continuous reflection on own practice.

1.4 Management supervision/support

To be responsible for the day to day supervision of peer support workers within the recovery college, offering them direction and support when working with learners.

Assist learners to identify their learning needs and to manage and organise appropriate peer support

To provide professional support to assist and enable learners who access the college and to supervise junior staff including undertaking individual and group supervision

1.5 Financial responsibility

To use Trust resources efficiently at all times. Suggest efficiency savings where necessary.
