Are you an experienced registered Podiatrist looking for your next role? We are looking for a Specialist Wound Care Podiatrist to join the Barnsley Podiatry Service.
The team consists of specialists in Diabetes, Wound Care & Biomechanics for children & adults & a good skill mix of community specialist podiatrists & podiatry assistants.
The post holder will provide specialist footcare for patients with complex high risk foot problems, this includes diabetes patients with acute & chronic foot wounds, patient with foot complications who are immunosuppressed & patients who have poor tissue viability.
You will be clinically responsible for treatment of a high-risk caseload working autonomously as well as part of the multidisciplinary team including in reach into secondary care.
You will provide supervision & training to podiatrists, apprentice podiatrists, podiatry assistants & student podiatrists in specialist area.
The department carries out podiatric services across a multitude of sites including our local acute hospital.

The successful candidate will :
Provide comprehensive care & manage a caseload with complex high-risk foot problems.
Be skilled in assessment of complex/specialist care/support needs & in the development, implementation & evaluation of care/support packages.
Provide education to health care staff & patients.
Ensure staff development though appraisal/supervision & keeping the service fit for the future.
Be an excellent communicator/negotiator with proven leadership & management skills.
Ensure effective utilisation of resources.
Have resilience & ability to problem solve quickly & effectively.

To act as a clinical lead in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Wound pathologies providing specialist advice and support on foot wounds to community staff and other health care professionals within primary and secondary care whilst managing a specialist individual caseload.
To work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team creating care plans for patients and providing clinical support to diabetes lead podiatrist (community) in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
To use specialist knowledge in providing a high quality, patient centred service, with the aim of preventing lower limb morbidity. Providing treatment of complex wounds following assessment and interpretation of clinical findings. In addition to provide intervention to reduce incidents of pressure damage associated with the at risk foot.
To assist the podiatry service manager and diabetes lead podiatrist (community) in planning, developing and implementing strategies for the wound care service.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
To be responsible for a caseload of patients with foot wounds having multifaceted pathologies.
Working with the support of the diabetes lead podiatrist use advanced diagnostic knowledge and skills to assess, analyse, investigate and diagnose complex foot pathologies, chronic and acute wounds, requiring interpretation and judgement on both the clinical and social findings.
Providing treatment which may include:
Lower limb vascular assessment.
Pressure relieving devices,
Radical debridement.
Complex wound management.
Bone and tissue swabs.
Neurological assessment.
Working within a multidisciplinary team provide specialist opinion on diagnosis and range of treatment options.
To be point of contact for all grades of community and podiatry staff acting as mentor, teacher and supervisor providing clinical advice on the assessment and diagnosis of patients including wound care management.
To use highly developed observational skills in the assessment of the at risk foot and lower limb to determine effective evidence based treatment plans.
To translate complex concepts in to understandable packages for patients, relatives and carers in order to enable understanding and compliance with care plans.
To liaise with biomechanics lead in the manufacture of pressure relieving devices.
To ensure personal, continuous professional development of clinical expertise and theoretical knowledge researching best practice in your specialist field. To demonstrate this by maintaining a professional portfolio.
