Full Time - 37.5 Hours Per Week

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Assistant Clinical psychologist to join our team. Our aim is to increase the use of Community Sentence Treatment Requirements in South Yorkshire.

We work in Partnership with The National Probation Service, Drugs, and alcohol services and HMCTS with the goal of improving health care outcomes and reducing reoffending in vulnerable adults.

The service offers a unique opportunity to work with complex service users who for varying reasons do not currently fit the remit for IAPT but do not meet the level of need that is supported in core mental health services.

The successful applicant will work closely with the probation officers and good communication across agencies is key. They will be working to cover Barnsley Magistrates Court, providing assessment and therapeutic interventions to clients who have been given a treatment order as an alternative to being sentenced to prison.

Clinical supervision will be provided, and the probation service will be lead professional in the case. This is a unique position for someone who might be an experienced PWPs, Associate practitioners, nurses etc. who wish to further develop their career or skills within the criminal justice system.

We are linked in with other sites across the country who have Clinical leads and assistant psychologists in post who are happy to discuss their experiences.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be part of a new dynamic team. We are evolving as a service to provide positive health outcomes for people within the criminal justice system. We work with vulnerable people that have often experienced trauma in their lives. So some of the skills and qualities would be to work.

To promote the psychological health and well-being of people made subject to Community Sentence Treatment Requirements by the criminal courts.

Under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, deliver low level psychological intervention to individuals, or groups who may present with depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders and learning difficulties.

Complete audit, service evaluation or research as required.

Assist in clinically related administration, teaching, and project work.

To assist in the planning, co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups.

To attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings.

To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological tests, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, and others involved in the clients care.

To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or the management of a clients problems.

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial Practical experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities and/or psychological/behavioural/ neurological problems.

Desirable

  • Experience of paid work in direct care provision, particularly in the care group of the specialty of this post.
  • Experience of administering and scoring neuropsychological assessments.

Qualifications

Essential

  • An Honours degree in Psychology (2:1)
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Training
