Job summary
The Elective Orthopaedic Suite at Pontefract Hospital is looking for a ward clerk that would like to join our friendly nursing team.
We currently have 17 beds but will be expanding to 30 beds.
The hours of working will be two 11.5hr shifts working flexibly from Monday through to Sunday.
The successful candidate must be efficient, motivated and forward thinking and experienced within the role of the ward clerk.
Main duties of the job
To carry out administration
duties in a manner that supports departmental targets and ensures compliance
with standard operating procedures.
The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining clear
systems of communication with particular regards to patient flow to enable the
ward team to function effectively.

Job responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a safe environment, patient, staff and visitors to Trust premises at all times
- Demonstrate a holistic approach to patient care and be aware of current trends and professional issues
- Ensure that all documentation for return to Medical Records/secretaries is accurately completed, filed correctly and promptly dispatched to the appropriate area.
- Ensure that complete and correct case notes and x-rays are available prior to admission for elective patients and obtained in a timely manner for other patients transferred to the unit.
- Responsible for the filing of pathological and x-ray reports, in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all case notes, x-rays, reports and doctors letters are prepared and ready for doctors ward rounds.
- Arrange appointments for out-patients, x-ray reports and other relevant departments. Arrange transport as necessary on discharge of a patient.
- Monitor the environment and report any necessary repairs.
- Maintenance of stationery stocks to pre-determined stock levels.
- Photocopying as requested by ward staff and sister in charge
- Undertake other clerical duties at the request of the ward staff.
- Sort mail addressed to ward and distribute accordingly.
- At the discretion of the Senior Nurse Manager, the ward clerk may be expected to work on other wards within the Unit to cover sickness/annual leave.
- Undertake errands to other departments as requested, e.g. pharmacy, pathology, x-ray etc.
